About Winery and Wines

The Farmhouse "I Sodi" is situated in the heart of the Chianti Classico among its wooded hills halfway between the village of "Monti" and the Castle of "Brolio" in a hamlet called "S. Marcellino". It was built in 1793. Its name "I Sodi" "Hard soil" probably derives from the fact that the house stands on a stony ground wich is not tilled. The house is built in the typical local architecture with a "loggia" with arches and a loft or dove-cot from where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the "Crete Senesi" and further on the "Monte Amiata".

The first vineyards were planted 50 years ago, and new vineyards just cover half of their property. The new ones have been planted to satisfy the new rules of Chianti Classico DOCG production. The old vineyards are still taken care of properly to ensure consistent growth of quality grapes. For many years, the company has been growing the best Canaiolo and Sangiovese grapes for their top-class red and Vinsanto dessert wines. The harvest time starts from the middle of September till first days of October.

All 12 hectares of their vineyards are placed around the house, and all the grapes are picked up and selected by hand. All the steps related to the winemaking process are managed directly at the farm. They want to respect the old traditions in their wine and express the qualities of their rich terroir. In 2007, the cellar was fit with new stainless steel tanks and other equipment. The barrel room was also enlarged to enhance wine production.

We offer all our visitors the opportunity to understand the entire production process from the bunch of grapes to the bottling, completing everything with the tasting of the main company products in the historic tasting room.
