Castello del Trebbio visit and wine tasting experience
Here is what you will live
During the hour-long tour (offered in Italian, English, Spanish, French, German and Chinese), you’ll experience the Castle’s historic milestones first hand. This history is interwoven with that of Florence and its historic noble banking family the De’ Pazzi, the castle original owners from the 12th century. The Pazzi family’s crest still adorns our courtyard today and was created by one of the true Renaissance masters, Donatello.
Stepping down into the ancient cellars, entering their doors, you’ll see magnificent oak barrels, used today for aging their wines.
After this cellar tour, you’ll taste some of the wines paired with small snacks such as “fettunta,” (toasted bread covered in our own extra virgin olive oil), Tuscan salami and Pecorino cheese.
Castello del Trebbio’s wines are the manifestation of two souls: A continuation of great tradition on one hand and the new potential of this territory on the other. Along with the traditional Sangiovese based wines, such as the Chianti DOCG and the Chianti Rufina Riserva “Lastricato,” the winery produces another line of wines sold under our “Vigneti Trebbio” label. These modern concept wines are created from grape varietals new to the area. With great care and professional handling in the vineyards and cellars, these new varietals have found a new chosen land in the Chianti Rufina.
All their wines age in traditional, large oak casks. Lastricato and Pazzesco additionally spend some months in smaller and medium barriques and tonneaux before bottle aging for at least six months!
