Collio Wine Route from Venice
Here is what you will live
You’ll be driven a hour and a half north east from Venice to the Collio region, a crossroad of cultures that shares its border with Slovenia.
A premium-quality wine area, the Collio was one of the first in Italy to be recognised, in 1968, as a Denominazione d’Origine Controllata, or DOC zone. The Collio’s succession of rolling downs, dotted with small villages and vineyards, covers a total of 1,600 hectares. This hill country is superb terrain for relaxing country holidays, in part thanks to the excellent farm holiday facilities.
This beautiful Wine Road, running for 50 km through a landscape of vineyards, castles, farms, as well as taverns, wine shops and restaurants, boasts some of the best varieties of grape: malvasia, ribolla gialla, pinot bianco,
sauvignon, picolit. You’ll be warmly welcomed by the wine producers and invited to try the local cuisine, substantially mitteleuropean rather than classic Italian. A surprising journey in an area rich of history and different traditions.
