Here is what's in store for you
This private full-day experience offers a perfect blend of wine, culture, and local gastronomy in the Heraklion countryside, allowing you to discover some of Crete’s most authentic traditions at a relaxed pace.
The journey begins with a visit to the historic Monastery of Gorgolaini, a serene sanctuary nestled among olive groves and rolling hills. Dating back to the Venetian era, the monastery provides insight into Crete’s spiritual heritage, while the adjacent agricultural museum showcases traditional farming tools and rural artifacts that reflect the island’s long-standing agricultural culture.
From there, you will continue to Diamantakis Winery, a family-owned estate located near Heraklion. Surrounded by vineyards, the winery visit includes a guided walk through the vineyard and cellar, an introduction to indigenous Cretan grape varieties, and a tasting of six carefully selected wines. The experience highlights the balance between tradition and modern winemaking techniques, all set against a backdrop of scenic countryside views.
The next stop is another well-established winery in the Heraklion region, known for its dedication to preserving local grape varieties. During your visit, you’ll explore the production areas and cellar, learn about Crete’s unique terroir, and enjoy a guided tasting of five indigenous wines, including Vidiano, Kotsifali, and Liatiko, each expressing the character of the region.
The day concludes with a traditional lunch in the village of Venerato at a local taverna renowned for its warm hospitality and home-style Cretan cuisine. The meal features locally sourced ingredients, regional specialties, and a relaxed village atmosphere, offering an authentic taste of Crete’s culinary traditions.
After lunch, you will enjoy a comfortable return drive to your accommodation in the late afternoon, bringing the experience to a close with lasting memories of Crete’s wines, culture, and landscapes.
