Le Ragnaie
(Weingut in Siena)
Our cellar is located on Le Ragnaie estate. It has recently been expanded and remodeled and allows us to work in an extremely safe and clean environment. Once the grape bunches are harvested by hand they are destemmed and placed on a vibrating table. This process allows us to eliminate any “bad” grapes, leaves and stems that were not removed in the destemmer.
It also ensures that any all of the grapes that are made into wine are of the highest quality. The musts are then placed in cement vats to begin the maceration and fermentation process.
They willmremain in these vats for anywhere from 25 to 40 days.
Next they are pressed and placed in barrels. We use both 25hl slovenian oak and 2,25hl Allier oak barrels in this process. The length of time that the wine remains in the barrel varies.
The Rosso di Montalcino stays for 9 months in the barrel and we use barrels of various dimensions for this wine.
The Brunello di Montalcino rests for 36-48 months in 25hl Slovanoan Oak Barrels. Next the wine is bottled where it rests in a temperature and humidity controlled environment until it is ready to be put on the market.
Terra di Seta
(Weingut in Siena)
Since 2001, Terra di Seta winery is part of a family-run organic farm conducted by Daniele Della Seta and his wife Maria Pellegrini. The farm is on a hill near Siena, with a 360 view on the Tuscan countryside of the famous Chianti Classico area.
Typical of the Chianti Classico area, in the central part of Tuscany in which wine has been produced for centuries, our vineyards are on a hill at about 1,574 feet above sea level, in a natural south-facing amphitheater: a sunny and windy place, with warm days and cool summer nights, perfect for the ripening of Sangiovese grapes, the most important variety of Tuscany, the grape of our tradition.
The ground is rocky and dry, letting the roots of the vine go deep and find water rich in minerals: it is these last ones that give strength and elegance to the wine.
This is a land of ancient traditions that was civilized in remote periods first by the Etruscans, who left many traces of their activity in the wine sector, and then by the Romans. The first document in which the name Chianti appeared in reference to the wine produced in the zone dates to 1398. In 1716 Cosimo III de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany issued an edict with the norms for the production of this wine, the first time in history that someone had promulgated a law about wine! Since 1716 till now the wine of this area continuing to be strictly regulated by the Chianti Classico Consortium. The term “Classico” means, therefore, “the first”, “the original.”
While the Della Setas come from an ancient Jewish family settled in Rome since 2000 years, the Pellegrinis are an old Tuscan family, from Pitigliano and Capalbio villages, with three generations of strong tradition and experience in wine production.
Cantina Salcheto
(Weingut in Siena)
Salcheto Winery was born as a multi-crop farm in the 80s, from a farm with a historical vineyard in the center of the territory. The wine vocation will come out in the 90s, during the period of rebirth of Italian wine that with high quality and territoriality created an experiential product. With the arrival of Michele Manelli this path accelerated and from 1997 the company specialized in wine, immediately obtaining important recognitions, even international ones, for its Vino Nobile. The name is inspired by the stream that runs along it, once the place of the "Salco", or willows in the old popular Tuscan language, whose branches were used to tie the vines to the poles.
After the first few years of experience with timid investments, Manelli was convinced that he had to expand his company in order to allow it to maintain the quality of craftsmanship, but also to cope with the internationalization of the sector and the organizational efficiency that was being imposed on it. Together with new financial partners, headed by the De Feo and Prashker families, he launched an expansion plan for Salcheto Winery. Inspired by his own personal values but also by projects in other sectors, he believes that a company cannot but inspire its choices to the best environmental standards and aspire to the deepest social cohesion with all stakeholders, starting with the workers.
It is in this context that the idea of creating an energy autonomous winery as Salcheto Winery was born, starting from efficiency and therefore savings, and then looking for sources of renewable energy production within the farm.
Castello di Ama
(Weingut in Siena)
Ama takes its name from a small borgo, or agricultural hamlet, nestled in the hills at an altitude of almost 500 metres. Five centuries ago, it was the hub of a florid farming and winemaking business overseen by a group of local families. “The road from Radda leads to Amma, three miles away on a hill and home to the Pianigiani, Ricucci and Montigiani – the most prominent families in Chianti,” wrote Grand Duke Peter Leopold of Habsburg-Lorraine in his 18th-century Report on the government of Tuscany. “They are well-off country gentry that spend all their income on farming and vineyards, and take care of everything. The hills and valleys surrounding the castle of Amma are the most beautiful in all of Chianti, superbly tended with fertile grain fields, olive groves and magnificent vineyards.” The Grand Duke’s visit is commemorated by a plaque on one of the buildings in the borgo, which are now owned by the winery. CASTELLO DI AMA , the winery, was founded in the 1960s by a group of families who had fallen under the spell of this magical spot. They set themselves the task of reviving Ama’s past glories and of producing a Chianti Classico that would rank among the world’s most prestigious wines.
Az. Agr.. Castel di Pugna
(Weingut in Siena)
The resort, which is only 3 km away. from the historic center of Siena, has very ancient origins and was mentioned for the first time in 1189 in a papal bull of Clement III addressed to Bono, bishop of Siena, with which he was given the rights to Castel di Pugna, set on fire and semi-destroyed by the Florentines in 1259 before the bloody battle of Monteaperti.
The Castle was the scene of frequent battles since the twelfth century (the word Pugna in fact derives from the Latin and means battle), a period to which a wooden shield depicting a burned tower, which today has become the emblem of the Fumi Cambi Gado family, dates back.
The new wine-making cellar, built according to the most modern technologies, but using typical Tuscan materials, is located on the splendid Sienese hills, I 14 ha. of vineyards surround the Castle and only native vines are grown, including Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo and Colorino with which different types of Chianti d.o.c.g. are produced.
Castellare di Castellina
(Weingut in Siena)
For 25 years it was only Castellare di Castellina. 25 years of successes with the rediscovery of the method (the Chianti wine in the straw-covered bottle) to govern the wine for the fresh and drinkable bottles, also frozen on summertime, of the Governo di Castellare; with the loyalty to the native vines for an authentic Chianti Classico wine, where the red ruby of the Sangioveto is not humiliated by the black Cabernet or, even worse, from the wines of the South; with the Chianti Classico Reserve and the Special Reserve Vigna il Poggiale always obtaining the maximum scores from the guides as well as the three glasses from Gamberorosso repeatedly; with the international vines vinified in purity: Cabernet for the bottles of Coniale and Merlot for Poggio ai Merli, which gave us the possibility to compete to the world challenge of the two most diffused vines in the world; and, again with the three glasses, Le Ginestre (Chardonnay and Sauvignon in steel), Canonico (from the strong character of Chardonnay, vinified in barrique) and Spartito (Sauvignon vinified in barrique as well); the Vinsanto S. Niccolò, well done, without the ladle, neither too much dry neither too sweet; and last, the masterpiece, the great I Sodi di S. Niccolò, glorification of Sangioveto and black Malvasia (10%), twice in the 100 Top classification of Wine Spectator, the proof that Sangioveto vine may compete with all the best vines of the world.
Máté Winery
(Weingut in Siena)
The Máté family wine estate nestles on two private hills in the temperate, seaward zone of Montalcino. A Roman vineyard 2,000 years ago, the seven campi of marvelously varied terroir lie between 300 and 400 meters above sea level. Totaling 7 hectares (15 acres) among Mediterranean woods of herbs and wild fruit, they were designed by Fabrizio Moltard, agron-omist to Angelo Gaja. The clones, chosen for each field by France’s Pierre Guillaume, com-prise: Sangiovese (in fossil-filled tufo), Merlot (in sandy clay), Cabernet Sauvignon (in marl), and Syrah (on mineral-rich, southern terraces).
Planted to a high density of 6,200 vines per hectare, (3,000 per acre), the yields are kept extremely low by three annual green prunings to concentrate flavors. Selected, hand-picked at fullest maturity and fermented in small temper-ature-controlled stainless steel vats or new wooden barrels, the grapes are punched down by hand to extract colors and tannins, while the must is kept cool to maintain the rich aromas of fruits and spices. The wines are aged for up to two years and a half in Allier French oak barriques and tonneaux.
Agriturismo Poggio Bonelli
(Weingut in Siena)
Sought after by the most prestigious noble families of Siena, the Poggio Bonelli estate was run by different owners in the course of the centuries. The property was in the hands of the ancient Spennali family throughout the Middle Ages. Later on, in the second half of the 16th century, Poggio Bonelli was included in the possessions of the prominent Piccolomini family.
Throughout the 17th and 18th centuries, the land was probably passed down to the Landucci family by way of dowry or inheritance.
The Crocis and the Landuccis together managed the Poggio Bonelli estate until well into the 20th century, finally leaving it to the capable hands of the Real Estate company of the Monte dei Paschi di Siena.
The estate is located in the heart of the Chianti Classico area, in Tuscany.
Wine-making traditions – which date back to the sixteenth century – are still deeply rooted in the vineyards of origin of the prestigious wines of the Poggio Bonelli range. The estate, which is owned – together with the Chigi Saracini farms – by Mps Tenimenti SpA, extends over 840 hectares approx., with vineyards covering a surface of 80 ha.
The estate also includes a few lovely holiday farmhouses located in two different spots, provided with comfortable apartments and two swimming pools.
In addition, the estate incorporates organically grown olive trees which produce an excellent extra-virgin olive oil.
Azienda Agricola Casanova di Neri
(Weingut in Siena)
Our 63 hectares of vineyards are the core of our estate and our greatest riches from which extraordinary grapes are produced that are the secret of our wines. In all there are 7 vineyards:
Fiesole, Poderuccio, Podernuovo, Le Cetine, Pietradonice, Cerretalto and Spereta, all of them in different parts of the territory of Montalcino.
The diversity of their soils, exposures, microclimates and of the ages of the vines creates the identity of our wines. Wines produced by us are the consequence of how Sangiovese in Montalcino can give exceptional unrepeatable results, distinguished by a unique quality stemming from the combination of a territory that has always been dedicated to viticulture with the unstinting labour and infinite passion with which we confront it daily.
Our grapes are the product of a variety of Sangiovese Grosso taken from our Cerretalto vineyard and from a long process of reproduction and planting of vineyards on the various slopes that give varying results that all spring originally from Sangiovese in Casanova di Neri.
Badia a Coltibuono
(Weingut in Siena)
In years gone by, Badia a Coltibuono was a monastery providing hospitality to wayfarers. Today Coltibuono is a beautiful, historic agriturismo and offers the unique experience of a stay in one of the original rooms of this evocative monastery. Once a place of prayer and renewal, Badia a Coltibuono has embraced modern ideas of hospitality whilst preserving the historical beauty and atmosphere of this ancient monastery. With our many activities, Badia a Coltibuono offers you the chance to find out more about real Tuscany - its stunning landscapes, historical buildings, its people and regional traditions in food and wine.
Abbadia Ardenga il Poggio
(Weingut in Siena)
Abbadia Ardenga, a winery which is part of the history of Brunello di Montalcino, is extremely special and definitely worth visiting, not only for its products but also for its outstanding charm. The estate has a very long history, having once belonged to the powerful Piccolomini family, whose members included Pope Pius II, responsible for the construction of the town of Pienza, a masterpiece of the Renaissance.
The Estate is made up of two separate nuclei in the municipality of Montalcino, occupying a total of 650 hectares. Just ten have been reserved for the vineyards. We dedicate all our efforts to the cultivation of just one grape variety, Sangiovese, which is used to produce 40,000 bottles a year, subdivided into Brunello di Montalcino DOCG (Brunello di M. Vigna), Rosso di Montalcino DOC (Sangiovese Grosso) and Ardengo Rosso IGT (bright red Sangiovese).
Podere La Marronaia
(Weingut in Siena)
