Marqués de Caceres
(Weingut in Rioja)
Über das Weingut und die Weine
The winery was founded in 1970 by Enrique Forner.
In 1920 the Forner family, who were experienced in the wine industry, went into exile in France where Enrique Forner rediscovered his roots founded on vineyards and terroir. Finally, in 1964 they purchased two chateaux in Bordeaux, Chateaux Camensac and Chateaux Larose Trintaudon.
However, Mr. Forner's intention was to return to Spain in order to continue the Bordeaux experience, so in 1970 he returned to develop all the potential available in this fine wine-growing area of La Rioja. He breaks from traditional methods by reducing the time spent in oak barrels, emphasizing also the importance of the fruit.
He also pioneered the use of the highest quality French oak barrels, instead of the more conventional American oak in Rioja.
His daughter, Cristina Forner, joined the winery in 1983. Thanks to her work in the export market, Marqués de Cáceres has become one of the world's best Spanish wine brands. She became President of the winery in 2007.
