A great italian history to discover, a visit to a historic Castle, a tour in a Unesco Heritage Site and a taste of great wines from Piedmont..is this just a dream? No, this is exactly what you will experience if you choose to visit the Malabaila winery! Close to the main attractions in Piedmont, like Alba, Cuneo, Malabaila is located in the splendid Roero area.

The fundamental element that characterizes the landscape of Roero is represented by “Rocche”, a geological phenomenon of erosion started centuries ago. In the gentle hills typical of the Roero, deep gorges open up, which
can also reach differences in height of hundreds of meters. The sandy walls of the hill form spiers of fascinating and beautiful forms, majestic and imposing natural amphitheatres where you canmventure along the paths of the peasants.

Starting from 2014 Roero is part of UNESCO World Heritage.

With this wine tasting experience you will discover the amazing history of the Malabaila with Lucrezia and Costanza. First news about the wine production in their properties date back to 1270, based on some letters of the Prince of Piedmont.

Today the wine production, on about 22 hectares of vineyards, is around 100,000 bottles a year. The Roero terroir is rich in minerals and is more sandy than that of the Langhe, which has a part clay. Their hills are also a bit smaller and more high (about 350 meters), than the Langhe, with a soil that favors the water flow, preventing water retention. The difference between the Roero and Langhe Barolo is precisely in these characteristics of the soil. Both wines are very similar but the different DOCG wine appelation derives from the two different named territories. 

You will have a guided tour of the sumptuous Malabaila castle, in the center of Canale, explanation of Roero, with a subsequent tasting of 4 wines, including the Roero Arneis, the Barbera d'Alba MezzaVilla, the Langhe Nebbiolo, and the Roero Bric Volta (depending on seasonal availability). The tasting is combined with a mixed cutting board of local products.
