Sobre la bodega y los vinos

We are an organic farm in Casale Marittimo, a small village on the Tuscan coast, on top of the hills a few kilometers north of Bolgheri. We produce wine and olive oil, we breed Quarter Horses, Cinta Senese pigs and homing pigeons. I Mandrioli and all our other houses immersed in the hills of the farm offer an unique experience in our land.

Rocco, a passionate winemaker of a new kind, has for years carried out meticulous research on Syrah, the mother vine and his grape of the heart, developed on iron soil - as well as Cabernet Franc - and declined in no less than four labels. The avant-garde spirit and the desire to always put himself at stake by breaking down pre-established categories, then pushed him to give life to a third grape variety, Greco di Tufo, cultivated on tufa and chalk soil and the basis of our only white wine. This last vine, truly unusual for the area in which it is located, is one of the many bets won.

The wines, like the other products, bear witness to Rocco's ancestral passion for the countryside, which has led him to commit himself full-time to life in the fields, preferring it to office duties.

A direct and authentic character, that of our wines, the results of a young and sparkling philosophy, which mixes strategies and techniques learnt away from home - travelling the world, always in search of new stimuli - with a recognisable ethical imprint in the character of the team, which espouses a completely sustainable winemaking. The inclusion of beneficial insects is, in fact, the first step in a series of measures that have led us towards a very strong and rigorous organic approach.

All activities, both in the vineyard and in the cellar, have always been carried out by hand, without mechanical support, with the exception of tilling.

All these courageous decisions have accompanied us during the years of transition to organic farming: sometimes drastic choices, always made in the evocative amphitheatre-shaped vineyard, looking towards the sea.
