An enduring family in the Priorat making several wonderful wines with very historic varieties. A great visit to see carefully made wines by women who love the vines.

Sobre la bodega y los vinos

Celler Mas Doix is a winery created by the Doix & Llagostera family in 1998; it is the reinitiation of a tradition that began in 1850. The gold medal obtained in the Universal Exhibition of Barcelona in 1888 and the silver medal won in the Universal Exhibition of Paris in 1878, remind us of the passion with which Juan Extrems Doix, Juan Doix's grandfather, used long ago to look after the vineyards and produce his wines. The phylloxera outbreak did not mean the end of the family's vineyards. They were replanted with Garnacha and Cariñena varieties, native to the Priorat region, thereby maintaining the growth of the vineyards while the production was sent to the co-operative in Poboleda until it was produced in our winery. Nowadays, we are laboring with love and passion for the fruit grown in our hundred-year-old vineyards so we can produce great wines.

Mas Doix Estate Vineyards are an ideal terroir for growing superb wine grapes. The properties of the sloped vineyards, with licorella slate soil and vine-stocks between 70 and 105 years, guarantees us the availability of a reduced, but excellent, raw material (400 gr. by stock). The passion and the constancy, during the last 90 years, of the Doix family have made possible the conservation of the vines that today are our main quality assurance. At the present time, we have 15 ha. of our own vineyards, Doix estate (4 ha.) of Cariñena vines planted in 1902 (107 years old) and Garnachas (80 years old); Salanques estate (3 ha) also plated with Garnachas and Cariñenas; Les Crestes (3 ha.) planted with Garnacha; Mas de l'Osso (3 Ha.) planted with Garnacha, Syrah and Merlot; Els Ullastres (1 ha.) Old Cariñenas and La Venteta estate (1 ha.) planted with Cabernet Sauvignon. Since 1999, we have another 4 ha. of grape growers in the area, using exclusively sloped, old vines of Garnacha and Cariñena. All the properties are located at an altitude of between 350 and 600 m.
