À propos du vignoble et des vins

Palazzo Lodron is part of the family history since more than 400 years, the cultivation of the vineyards is a rather young adventure.

History in brief: The Lodron estate is located in the small picturesque village of Nogaredo, between Trento and Lake Garda. There is an interesting family history to tell with close links to Salzburg (Salzburg's Prince Archbishop Paris Lodron was born in Nogaredo) and Mozart. Mozart lived in the immediate vicinity of the Counts Lodron in Salzburg. (The former Palais Lodron is now the Mozarteum University). He taught Countess Antonia's two daughters and wrote a total of three pieces of music for the family, including his tenth divertimento. In reference to this, we have named a red wine Divertimento no 10.

The first Bordeaux blend in Italy was created in Vallagarina back in the 1960s, as Cabernet and Merlot vines find ideal conditions here. It's the perfect hillside location, the quality of the soil, the warm climate with the wind from Lake Garda. The vineyard was leased for many years, then the contract ended and the descendents of the Lodrons, Pipo and his wife Olivia Volpini de Maestri jumped in and had the vineyard completely replanted. First vintage 2018! It was the right decision –the response from connoisseurs and international awards prove them right. Pipo and Olivia produce authentic wines that reflect their passion and love for this landscape.

Some say Palazzo Lodron wines are "Trentino's best kept secret ..."

Grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Carmenere - a Bordeaux blend from Trentino, so to speak.
4 labels Flaminia Rosato, Divertimento n.10, Rizzoi and Gran Tasso (pure Merlot)

Situated in the outstanding wine region Vallagarina, on the right side of the river Adige, 220 meters above sea level. 3 hectar (about seven acres) of vineyard are cultivated - surrounded by old stone walls, olive trees and lavender.

For us it is all about the quality of the wine. It starts in the vineyard, where we work with a carful consideration of nature. It is important to us to preserve and nurture the "immune system" of the vineyard. One way we do this, is to specifically introduce plants like clover, vetch or false flax that bring benefits to the ecosystem: soil erosion is reduced and biodiversity is stimulated. An added advantage is, that the flower blossom makes the vineyard colorful and is beneficial to bees and other useful animals.

We totally avoid herbicides. Weed control is done mechanically and the cut grass and vines are being mulched. As a result we rarely use fertilizer and if we really need to, we only use organic fertilizer. The removal of vine leaves speeds drying after the rain and reduces the develepment of fungi and bacteria. This in turn reduces the need to use plant protection products.

In July during the "Vendemmia Verde", or green harvest, shoots, grapes and leaves are cut from the vine. To achieve quality over quantity. Tending to the vines this way is hugely time consuming and involves a lot of manual work. However the size of the vineyard makes it possible to care for each and every plant throughout the year.
