Those who travel the Eastern Hills of Friuli will discover the amenity of a sweet and restful landscape, framed by splendid vineyards. A small plot of land that allows the cultivation of a wide variety of vines, which gives life to fresh and fragrant white wines and to full-bodied and strong red wines today renowned throughout the world.
There is a place in the Eastern Hills of Friuli, where the heart meets the earth and where the values ​​of a family find their most sincere expression in the production of great wines. It is the Roncal Winery. A small 20-hectare estate in Cividale del Friuli, a UNESCO heritage city. Here Martina Moreale continues the project started in 1986 by her husband Roberto, founder of the company. Respect for the earth and the environment, preservation of tradition, renewal of agricultural techniques: all this makes the production of high quality wines possible.
The name of the company, IL RONCAL, in Friulian means "farm, located on a hill planted with terraces", and indeed it is the ronchi that dominate this suggestive landscape. The ronchi of the vineyards that surround the Colle Montebello, the company's headquarters, are favored by an excellent exposure and by a arenar-marly soil, ideal for the cultivation of the vine.
At IL RONCAL all the phases of wine production are carried out carefully and calmly, respecting the natural rhythms; it is harvested late, in order to harvest the grapes in its most generous maturity. Vinification takes place in the winery's cellars according to traditional methods and at controlled temperature. The company has an underground room for the maturation and refinement of wooden wines and a ventilated room for drying the grapes. Once again a perfect combination of tradition and modernity.
On the hill of Montebello, the recently renovated and enlarged cellar houses a space dedicated to the sale of the company's wines. One of the two towers of the building is reserved for moments of tasting with a suggestive view over the surrounding vineyards
