Here is what's in store for you
Your experience begins in the Cretan countryside, surrounded by rolling hills, vineyards, and centuries-old olive groves. After a comfortable pick-up from your accommodation, you travel inland through a landscape that reflects the island’s deep agricultural roots, setting the tone for a day dedicated to local traditions and authentic flavors.
The first stop is a family-run olive grove farm, where olive trees have shaped the land and livelihoods for generations. Walking through the groves, you’ll learn about sustainable cultivation practices and the importance of olive oil in Cretan culture and daily life. The visit continues inside the production area, where both traditional and modern extraction methods are explained. A guided olive oil tasting follows, offering the opportunity to recognize fruity aromas, balanced bitterness, and peppery notes, while gaining insight into the health benefits of high-quality extra virgin olive oil, enjoyed with local bread and seasonal accompaniments.
You then continue toward the Peza Valley, one of Crete’s most important wine-growing regions, to visit a small, locally owned winery that also produces traditional raki. Set among sunlit vineyards, the winery visit introduces you to the island’s indigenous grape varieties and time-honored distillation techniques. During the guided tour, you’ll explore the vineyards and cellar, learn about fermentation and aging, and discover how wine and raki production remain closely tied to Cretan identity. A tasting of selected local wines follows, paired with regional delicacies that highlight the character of the terroir and the balance of each wine.
The experience concludes with a traditional lunch at a family-run taverna in the village of Peza or nearby Archanes. In a relaxed village setting, you’ll enjoy a full Cretan meal prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The menu features a variety of classic meze, a main course based on traditional recipes with vegetarian options available, house wine and raki, and homemade desserts sweetened with local honey. The meal is served at an unhurried pace, reflecting the warmth and generosity of Cretan hospitality.
After lunch, you’ll enjoy a scenic return drive to your accommodation, arriving in the early afternoon with a deeper appreciation for Crete’s olive oil, wine, and culinary traditions.
