Sicus is a way of viewing viticulture and winemaking. This philosophy recognizes the importance of expressing the terroir in a “food product” which is as dependent and interrelated with the land as wine as. The winegrower is like the humble conductor of an orchestra, and this orchestra is the Nature within which the vineyards grow. In Sicus, we therefore believe that we must conduct the vineyards to achieve the greatest of harmony, bearing in mind that all the species which surround the vines play an essential part in creating a perfect melody … For this reason, we practice environmentally-friendly viticulture, without the use of herbicides or insecticides, fostering a biodiversity of animals, insects and plants. When we transform the grapes into wine, we try to ensure that the fruit expresses itself to the fullest, making certain that the wine’s aromas and flavours come exclusively from the grapes. In some cases we use porous containers such as clay amphoras that allow us to micro-oxygenate the wine while respecting all its aromas and flavours. Ultimately, the wine grower, who of course plays a key part in the making of the wine, must guarantee, manage and respect the other elements which together make up the terroir.

We should take a look at the XV Century, when the Jeronim Monks that stayed at that time in Torre del Veguer, started to plant vines. The time went through and our wines were awarded with the Gold Medal in the World Expo in Barcelona at 1888. Respecting the ancient structure and the reformation made in the XIX Century, since 1995 new and modern installations have been updated with the aim of obtaining the higher quality. There are some criteria that are necessary to produce Torre del Veguer´s wines: To take care and constantly control of the vineyards development. To pick by hand in 30kg plastic cases. To select the grape in a sorting table before the de-stemmer. To choose the appropriate yeasts. To ferment under a controlled temperature. To separate the different must qualities depending on the number of presses. To use oak barrels from the best barriers from France and Spain. In the new project that started in 1995, we decided to work with autoctonal varieties such as Penedès Xarel.lo, Mediterranean´s Muscat of Frontignan, and foreigners like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petite Syrah. We also planted a vineyard of Pinot Noir and Muller Thurgau at a high of 1200 meters, in the east part of the Pyrenees, which is growing very positively, although the difficulty to adapt to such height.

Clos Berenguer is a family Cellar located in the D.O.Q. Priorat that elaborates its own wines. You can find our Clos at the P.K. 8,3 in the T-734 road at your right, following the way to El Molar town. A path with cypress trees near to the Siurana River will take you to the Cellar. At that point you'll contemplate the wonderful view of the Montsant mountains surrounded of vineyards. The yearold 2002 are wines of more than a year of breeding inside wood large barrels, and half a year in bottles, which is the minimum permitted if we want to commercialize our product.

CARTOIXA DE MONTSALVAT

Family winery. High quality wines. 5 hectares of vineyards. Priorat DOQ. Maximum production 10,000 kg. The winery began its life in 1995, led by Francesc Sánchez-Bas, an agricultural engineer, specialised in organic farming, being one of the first technicians to promote this technique in Spain. With a traditional philosophy, rooted in the love of the land and nature, this adventure began, exercising a dedication inherited from his maternal grandfather, with whom he lived since childhood, growing the vineyard and making wine by hand. Since 2023, his son Alexander has continued this adventure with him.
