Aníbal de Otero was born from the winemaking legacy of Aníbal García and the passion of his daughter, Elva García, who has managed to keep alive a vineyard with over 130 years of history. With a limited production and processes that respect the vine and its surroundings, the winery advocates for minimal intervention and maximum expression of the terroir.

The vineyards, mostly located around the village of Otero del Toral, are on slate and gravel soils, with the "Los Fornos" area being one of the best in the DO Bierzo, where Mencía reaches its fullest potential. Here, the grapes are cultivated artisanally and harvested by hand, ensuring a rigorous selection. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, and aging in French oak adds complexity and balance to the wines.

Located in the heart of Bierzo, Aníbal de Otero is a family-owned winery that combines tradition and innovation to offer unique wines, made exclusively from Mencía grapes from centenary vines. Its artisanal and sustainable production, along with an exceptional terroir, results in wines with great personality, recognized with high scores in specialized guides and awarded in prestigious national and international competitions.

Authenticity and Excellence in Every Bottle.

All our wines are a free-style red wine aged for 6-20 months in used French oak barrels and in small steel tanks. bottled without clarification or stabilization treatments, preserving their authenticity.

From very small plots located in the Paraje de Los Fornos, Cepon, TerraFondada, carefully tended by the family for more than three generations. South-facing, on a slope overlooking the valley where the Burbia, Cua, and Sil rivers meet, in soils dominated by limestone and slate. In this stunning setting lies our greatest treasure: Mencía vines over 90years old, some more than 130, likely pre-phylloxera. A total surface of 4 hectares spread across more than 40 plots, producing exceptional grapes with a very low average yield. The utmost respect for the grape is our priority. The results are a complex and powerful wines—elegant and sensual. Transparent and a true reflection of the land of the very soul of Bierzo.
