Cantina e Vini

Established in the 1950s by Casimiro Toribio Boraita in Puebla de Sancho Pérez, a small town located in the province of Badajoz (Extremadura, South West of Spain), this winery started making wines with their own grapes, which were excellent in quality but short in quantity.
During the 1990s, his son Fernando Toribio Muñoz took the reins of the family business. From the very beginning he had a main purpose in mind: to increase quality and produce unique wines with their own character and personality. A few years later, with the introduction of new technology and winemaking techniques combined with traditional ones and the incorporation of French and American oak barrels for wine aging, the winery achieved higher quality standards and created a wide range of wines, all of them coming from their own vineyards. Currently, the third generation is already working at the family business, sharing the same passion for wine.

Bodegas Toribio treasures the privilege of being located in a long-term traditional vine growing area called “Matanegra”, with a very rooted winemaking
identity. In this area, located in Southern Extremadura, there is a special microclimate and the land is rich in mineral and nutrients, with an average altitude of 640m above the sea level. The climate is warm with a wide gap between day and night temperatures, favouring late harvests and a slow, optimal ripening of the grapes.

We look after around 120 hectares of vineyard, which we love and pamper every day. 50 of them are our own vineyards, where we have many different grape varieties such as Macabeo, Eva Beba, Verdejo and Alarije for white, and Tempranillo, Garnacha, Alicant Bouschet, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Graciano for red. We always work on a low-yield basis to obtain the maximum quality and expression from each variety. The characteristics of our land, together with the winds coming from the Atlantic and the perfect adaptation of the vine growing cycle, contributed to get strong, long-living vine plants which is essential to give our wines much of their particular character.
At the vineyard, we focus on yield restriction to obtain higher quality grapes which express the terroir of the Matanegra area. This thorough care, together with the traditional techniques applied to our modern-styled wines, where fruit and wood are in perfect balance, make our Bodega Viña Puebla a singular winery. The special microclimate in the Matanegra area is perfect for vine cultivation under organic farming regulations. Our vine-growing techniques, as well as our wine-making processes, are done according to organic farming criteria, based on traditional techniques which respect the natural environment to the maximum.
