Cantina e Vini

DO It is a small and very distinctive family winery, founded in 1979. The project was started driven by the desire and the conviction that in Mallorca and specifically in Algaida, high quality wines could be produced. It was an adventure and an aspiration. Difficult to say if it was meant to be an experiment or a hobby or just entertainment, but the truth is that after the planting started, gradually, this project has been doing great in all aspects without ever losing sight of the main goal: grow, develop and commercialize unique and quality wines. The winery has been built over the time with the effort of the whole family. The building has a large open space, as though it was the yard of a manor, with warehouses, the cellar and the garden around. The wine cellar holds a special atmosphere of repose. This is where the aging is done and where optimum conditions for conservation of wines are given. Both the vineyards and winery are located in Algaida, a village with deep viticultural roots and a peasant ancestral culture, part of the Denomination of Origin Pla i Llevant in Mallorca.

In two beautiful locations near the Majorcan village of Algaida, 14 different native and international varieties are being ecologically grown in 17 hectares of family owned grounds. The Son Reus domain, on the road from Algaida to Pina, is close to a medieval lordship mansion that - after the Christian conquest in the XIII century - gave name to these lands and replaced the one named Butibalausí, original Moorish name given to the same farmstead. Soils have clay loam composition with abundant percentage of iron oxide that gives them a coppery red color. Son Roig is the other domain, located in an idyllic landscape of slightly undulating limestone and clay grounds, surrounded by almond, carob and fig trees and receiving shelter from the Randa and Son Roig mounts. Since the very beginning, the cultivation of the vineyards has been organic. That means, respectful for agricultural cycles and non-use of fertilizers or synthetic chemicals. From pruning vines until harvest, exhaustive control is done of both the health of the plant and the quality of the grapes.
