Cantina e Vini

Finca Museum came about as the start of the expansion process by Grupo Barón de Ley outside La Rioja region, where it originated. Seeking vine-growing areas where it was possible to maintain the right value for money, the Grupo looked towards the Cigales Appellation of Origin region. Village by village, plaza by plaza, asking all the locals, we finally found a singular vineyard where to build a spectacular winery that today bears the name Finca Museum. In 1999 we elaborated a test year at an external winery and aged the wine in a former hermitage in Cigales. One year later, the first bottle of Finca Monasterio by Grupo Barón de Ley wine was opened made that year. A new history began. Right from the start of the project, we considered Finca Museum as the best "open air vine museum". This name, unofficial yet full of feeling, today keeps an art collection in parallel with its winemaking that is on display at the facilities. The statue of Vinea, a bronze figure over granite, is the centrepiece of this collection, a piece of work by the sculptor Victor Ochoa. The masterpiece shows vines through a woman with a young body, yet mature face, expressing the character of our old vineyards.

Finca Museum vineyards and their centenary old vines are located in a truly singular landscape. Poor soil, abandoned for generations, which accumulates the heat during the hot summer days and releases it during the night, thus contributing to perfect polyphenolic and aromatic ripening of the grapes. We have low yield, but rich in minerals, synonymous of quality. Vineyards of singular beauty where different variety vines grow together, conferring the region a particular feature that is hard to find anywhere else. We are located in the inland area of the Iberian peninsula, at a considerable altitude for the vineyard and with thermal contrasts between day and night that can reach 20ºC. The summers are very hot and winters extremely cold and rainy, spring is dry with frequent frosts and the summers are very dry, thus guaranteeing the health of grapes.
