The Bodega Santa Catarina is located in one of the most beautiful valleys of the Tramuntana. Mountains, where wine has been cultivated for hundreds of years. Founded in just 1985, the winery has since achieved International acclaim for its award-winning wines. The Mallorcan grapes Prensal Blanc, Mantonegro and Callet are blended with the International varieties Chardonnay, Muscat, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. Mild Mediterranean winds, intense sun, cool nights, (and even a little snow in winter time) allow for full ripening and an outstanding quality of grapes. The vaulted cellar, measuring some 40m wide and 50m deep is a natural cave, built into the mountains and using some 8400 sandstone bricks which help maintain the perfect humidity and constant temperature necessary for the storage of the wines. 225l French and American Oak barrels are used to age the wines which can stay inside for between four months and two years depending on their style. The winery and its special environment provides the perfect way for you to enjoy the extraordinary world of Mallorcan wine, in the middle of nature and away from the everyday stresses of life. The cellar vault, made from some 8400 sandstones, still holds bottles from the very first vintage of 1992 as well as various bottles from every vintage since. 500 French and American oak barrels line the back-walls and are filled with red wine that ages for between 4 months and 2 years. A constant humidity of 85% and natural temperatures of between 17C and 20C ensure perfect conditions for the storage of the wine within this totally unique Majorcan “wine cathedral”.
