Very nice wine tasting

We had a very nice wine tasting at Oro d’Etna. It was more than just a wine tasting, there were also very nice set of snacks for each wine, that were making all experience just delightful. Person who was doing the whole presentation, was full of knowledge and knew answers to every question. Whole experience was definately worth the money and we are happy that we chose exactly this place to haev wine tasting in Sicily.
Suggestion would be to identify wine tasting place more precisely. Initialy we arrived to shop, and the location for wine tasting was not in the same place, it was in different location (about 1km away). Otherwise everything was very nice and we woudl definately recommend for other travelers as weel.

Super interesante y distinto. Ignazio fue muy amable, explicó muchas cosas y nos dio a probar 4 vinos (1 blanco, 1 rosado y 2 tintos) y una grappa junto con un tapeo muy rico que iba acompañando y maridando cada vino. La bodega está muy linda ubicada, rodeada de las formaciones montañosas y cerca del Etna.

Una visita al vigneto, una spiegazione attenta ed esaustiva in cantina, una degustazione varia con abbinamento al vino non può essere interessante e coinvolgente se non vi è trasporto emozione e passione . Questo è quello che , per tutta la durata della nostra esperienza enogastronomica , abbiamo letto negli occhi di Domenico che ci ha illuminato con i suoi racconti di vita in cui innovazione e tradizione vanno “a braccetto”. “Assaporare” è la parola d’ordine , magari anche ad occhi chiusi , lasciandosi cullare dai profumi inebrianti dei sui vini .

Excellent Visit to Oro d'Etna - Azienda Agricola Costa

We were a party of five visiting on a Monday afternoon. We had the vineyard, cellar and tasting experience to ourselves and were very well looked after by our hostess. The winery is small, and has been producing wine for the past 10 years, but before that supplied grapes to the local Coop, so many of the vines are over 40 years old, and some more than 80. The tasting included Etna Bianco, Rosato, Etna Rosso and their best red, the Reserve (which was special). The final tasting was their own grappa, which was excellent. Go hungry as the accompanying food was filling, and excellent. Their wine is not available in local shops or restaurants (only 25,ooo bottles a year production), but can be bought from their outlet shop in Zafferana - well worth the short journey from the winery. They have young vines and plan to produce sparkling wine in the future - if as good as their other wines they should do well.

Bellissima visita in cantina appena costruita incastonata nella pietra lavica, tutto molto moderno e curato. Natalia ci ha accompagnato alla scoperta dell'azienda e dei vini. Abbiamo bevuto quattro calici diversi arricchiti da molti assaggi gastronomici tipici della zona. Speriamo di tornare quando avranno imbottigliato lo spumante! Esperienza consigliata

Our family of 8 LOVED this wine tasting experience!! Fantastic tour with Delicious Wine and Food!! The vineyard was beautiful and so was the inside the building! We also loved stopping into and shopping in the market and tasting all the honey! We highly recommended this experience and can’t wait until the ship to the USA!

We really enjoyed our afternoon wine experience at Oro d’Etna. They have a little shop down the road, which we visited first. So make sure you go up the street to the actual winery for your experience! We loved all the wines we tried and the food was also delicious. It was very cool to see the cellars and hear about their history. If we are ever back in Etna, we would love to visit again!
Make sure to visit the winery (up the hill) and the shop where you can try their honey!

Thoughtful visit around the new cellars and description of equipment and manufacturing process. Lunch wine tasting was excellent - four wines tasted, with a LOT of food. I am certainly not complaining but they could easily serve smaller portions! Delightful host for our visit:

Degustazione di vini molto soddisfacente! Abbiamo assaggiato 4 tipologie di vini, tutti molto buoni, abbinati a tanti cibi sfiziosi, tipici della cucina siciliana. Per finire abbiamo assaporato la grappa accompagnata da un dolce alla mandorla, anch'esso delizioso. Il tutto è stato accompagnato da una visita alla cantina e da una breve passeggiata nel vigneto, Consiglio vivamente questa esperienza.

Cantina e Vini

A Zafferana, sulla "Strada del Vino dell'Etna" e passaggio obbligato per raggiungere il vulcano attivo più alto d'Europa, si trova l'Azienda Agricola Costa ORO d'Etna.

L'anima del viticoltore è sempre stata nella storia e negli antenati della famiglia Costa. Anche un bottaio, il nonno "Neddu", tra le giovani generazioni della famiglia. Oggi è proprietario di un bellissimo vigneto di 5 ettari situato all'ingresso di Zafferana a 550 metri sul livello del mare, sulle pendici orientali dell'Etna, ma di fronte al Mar Ionio.

I vitigni autoctoni sono presenti in tre diverse piantagioni:

- circa 1 ettaro, la parte più giovane del vigneto, ha poco più di 10 anni, totalmente impiantato a Nerello Mascalese e allevato a Guyot singolo.

- poco più di 3 ettari, con un'età di circa 40 anni, coltivati ad alberello con sistema a filare, impiantati con uve rosse di Nerello Mascalese e Cappuccio e uve bianche di Cataratto, Carricante e Minnella bianca, miscelate come da tradizione.

- poco meno di 1 ettaro, situato su piccole terrazze realizzate con muretti a secco in pietra lavica, la parte più antica del vigneto, con piante di circa 80 anni, allevate con il tradizionale metodo ad alberello.

Da questo vigneto, la cura dei vigneti e delle uve, le basse rese per ogni pianta e l'attenta selezione delle uve, le pratiche di cantina miste tra innovazione e tradizione, ma soprattutto il lavoro e la passione, vengono prodotte circa 20/25.000 bottiglie di ottimi vini che possono fregiarsi della prestigiosa sigla Etna DOC.
