The privately owned vineyards of Vlassides Winery holds a history of more than a century, dating back to the vineyards planted by Sophocles Vlassides's grandparents along with the experimental and international varieties vineyards planted by Sophocles Vlassides' father and the modern vineyards planted by Sophocles Vlassides himself. The 16 hectares of vineyards of Vlassides Winery are located in the region surrounding Koilani village in the Limassol district, at altitudes of 700 meters to 1100 meters, at the top of the Afames mountain, located south of Troodos. The new building of the winery is located in the vine-area Koloni, an area with a modern 5-hectares vineyard. The vineyards were restructured in 2005 based on the results of years of experimentation that led to a thorough renewal of the vineyards and its modernization with the use of new systems for linear shoring and permanent irrigation systems. The vineyards are irrigated when necessary with beneficial results for the fruit of the grape. By doing so, the negative consequences of the overly dry Cyprus climate of Cyprus with little rainfall are avoided. This innovative and painstaking process is now at a very advanced stage and today the Vlassides Winery manages 16 hectares of land planted with vines. At Vlasssides vineyards one can find today the red varieties of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Aghiorghitiko, Maratheftiko, and Giannoudi, and the white varieties of Xynisteri, Sauvignon Blanc, and Promara. The native varieties, forgotten by many, are grown in experimental vineyards with the ultimate goal that of the future production of authentic Cypriot wines
