This experience invites you to discover the authentic flavors of Crete through olive oil, wine, and local gastronomy, set against the peaceful landscapes of the island’s countryside.
The day begins with a visit to a family-owned olive grove farm in the Skalani area, a region known for its long-standing olive oil traditions. Surrounded by centuries-old olive trees, you’ll learn about sustainable cultivation methods and the importance of olive oil in Cretan culture. Inside the production area, the extraction process is explained step by step, offering insight into how olives are transformed into high-quality extra virgin olive oil. The visit concludes with a guided tasting, where you’ll sample different olive oils and discover their fruity, bitter, and peppery characteristics, accompanied by local bread, herbs, and homemade olive-based delicacies.
The journey continues to a boutique, award-winning winery located in the Peza or Dafnes wine region. During the guided visit, you’ll walk among the vineyards and explore the cellar, learning about Crete’s indigenous grape varieties and the winemaking techniques that shape their distinctive character. A tasting of five local wines follows, allowing you to experience the diversity of the region’s terroir, with each wine paired with cheeses, rusks, and traditional Cretan delicacies that enhance the flavors.
The experience concludes in the village of Archanes, one of Crete’s most picturesque settlements, located at the foot of Mount Giouhtas. In the heart of the village, you’ll enjoy a relaxed four-course lunch at a well-known local taverna, set in a charming square shaded by tall trees and surrounded by flowers. The menu includes starters (seasonal salad & Cretan meze), main course (slow-cooked meat or a vegetarian dish), and dessert (handmade local sweet with honey).
After lunch, you’ll enjoy a comfortable return drive to your accommodation, arriving in the afternoon with lasting memories of Crete’s landscapes, flavors, and traditions.
