Tour Selinunte, Marsala Wine and Salt Pans
Here is what you will live
Looking for a special experience during your vacation in Agrigento? Choose this special wine tour to discover the real secrets of this wine region!
With this tour you will be picked up by your private driver at your hotel in the Agrigento Area and leave to Marsala, after the destruction of Mozia, the refugees from this little island came to the coast and formed a village called Lilibeo. Conquered by the Romans at the end of the First Punic war, Lilibeo became a luxurious town with palazzi and thermal areas. The Arabs called this ancient city Mars – Alì (“the harbour of Alì” or “the big harbour”), now Marsala. The modern city is famous for its worldwide known wine, the Marsala wine, and for the landing of Giuseppe Garibaldi, 11th May 1860. Not to miss the Archaeological Museum and the Salt road with the Salt Pans.
You will stop in a winery for a Marsala Tasting before reaching Selinunte, an old Greek city in the widest archaeological park of Europe. It was founded in the VII century B.C. and thanks to its vast and fertile territory became soon very flourishing. Destroyed in 409 B.C. by the Carthaginians allied with Segesta, its eternal rival, was then inhabited by the Punics until 250 B.C. The two most important areas to visit are the Eastern Hill with ruins of three temples and the Acropolis where Greek and Punic ruins are still visible.
