The little village of Bolgheri is located in Tuscany, more specifically in the province of Livorno. Surrounded by green hills and less than 10 kilometers from the coast, Bolgheri is the perfect destination for wine lovers who are looking for memorable wine tastings and wineries to visit in central Italy and at the same time want to avoid large tourist crowds.

During your time in Bolgheri, you will have the chance to discover the story behind one of Italy’s most renowned wines, Sassicaia. Vines in the territory of Bolgheri were cultivated since the Etruscans’ age. Especially during medieval times, the first experimental vines appeared in the area. Here Tenuta San Guido started producing its famous Sassicaia wine, basing its techniques on the French winemaking culture and adopting both the methods and the vines used in France. Sassicaia wine was recognized in 1978, and soon later started obtaining international fame and recognition when compared to the Grand Crus of Bordeaux, very esteemed at that time. While in Bolgheri, your wine tastings will certainly include different Bolgheri DOC wines, the area’s appellation. Bolgheri DOC include bianco (white), rosso (red), rosato (rosé), rosso superiore, Sauvignon and Vermentino.
