Casita MiroCasita Miro Restaurant is the 'raison d'etre' of Cat Vosper, wife of Miro Vineyard winemaker Barnett Bond, mother of George, Harrison and Miro and former lawyer. Cat's passion for the food and wine of Spain and the Mediterranean was the catalyst to start what is now the award winning Casita Miro. After several years of serving tapas informally on the terrace overlooking the vineyards, Cat eventually sold the kids in order to build the beautiful art deco style pavilion now housing the restaurant. Casita has won numerous awards including Audi Metro 2011 Rural Restaurant of the Year as well as Cat winning the 2011 Restaurant Personality of the Year. Whilst we are humbled by these awards, we try not to rest on our laurels and constantly strive to be one of Auckland's finest restaurants. Most recently the restaurant was announced as runner up as Auckland's best Destination Restaurant for 2016 in the Metro magazine Top 50 award

Ascension Wine EstateTakatu Vineyard lies on what was once an ancient Kauri forest. It has a clay soil and relies on the sub tropical rain fall to irrigate the vines. Each year the variation of rain and sun beating down on the slope of the vineyard determines its own vintage. The vineyard is relatively small but has a charm of its own, growing five different varieties of grape. The main focus is on getting quality production over quantity. To achieve this, most of the work is done by hand using local people and some backpackers from overseas at peak time. Each drop of wine has taken sunshine, rain and nutrients from the earth, sweat and patience of the human hand and time and testing with our wine maker to bring you the final product.

Mt Difficulty Wines Limitedt all began in the early 1990's, when the owners of five newly-planted vineyards in Bannockburn shook hands and decided to work together to produce wine under one label, Mt Difficulty. The handshake bound the owners of Molyneux, Mansons Farm, Verboeket Estate and Full Circle until 2004 when Mt Difficulty Wines Ltd was formed, and the majority of the individual vineyards passed into the ownership of the company. As a result, Mt Difficulty Wines Ltd now owns some of the oldest vineyards in the Bannockburn sub-region of Central Otago in New Zealand's rugged South Island. The vine age gives our wines, particularly the Pinot Noirs, extra complexity and concentration. The Bannockburn area is internationally recognised as one of the few places in the world outside Burgundy where the pernickety Pinot Noir variety has found a home. Parts of New Zealand and cooler areas on the western seaboard of the United States are the only other regions where Pinot Noir seems to truly flourish.

Tirohana Estate produces award-winning premium wines exclusively from its home block, has received many international accolades and enjoys the unique distinction of winning the prestigious Romeo Bragato award for Championship Pinot Noir NZ and Championship Reserve Wine NZ, as well as several Championship trophies and medals, along with a Cuisine 5 star recommendation acknowledging Tirohana Estate Pinot Noir as being in the top ten Australasian wines. All the heritage varieties are handcrafted and handmade following traditional methods in both the vineyard and the winery by a dedicated team of staff with no expense spared in the pursuit of excellence.

Maori Point Vineyard LtdWe are John Harris, Marilyn Duxson, Matt Evans, and Maggie Evans. We are also the friends and family who contribute so much to Maori Point. We are passionate about this land and all of the animals, plants, fungi and microbes that inhabit it. We planted Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris vines in 2002, and although we may give some special attention to the grapevines, they are nonetheless merely part of the larger ecosystem. Located In the heart of Central Otago. Halfway between Cromwell and Wanaka, on the bank of the Clutha River at Tarras, Maori Point is surrounded by mountains, snow-covered in winter (and often through summer). The area is usually cloud-free and dry. The southern boundary of our vineyard is sheltered by pine trees but the nor-west wind can funnel between the mountain ranges and sweep across the vineyard. Our soil is wind-blown loess over deep deposits of large boulders dumped at the foot of the Hawea glacier, 10,000 years ago. Since then, little has grown in this arid environment. We are changing that, both through our grapevines (which unlike most crops can thrive in this free-draining, low-organic content soil) and through our plantings of native vegetation. We practice careful viticulture and management of the land. We believe that each grapevine has a story, and we laboriously hand-tend each vine to help it tell that story. Flowers and aromatic plants are grown between the vine rows and then mown and mulched under the vines, to create a beneficial ecosystem and nutrition for the vines. These practices have made an enormous difference: in just a few years our vines have found balance, and the soil in the vine rows has changed colour from pale sand to dark loam. Meanwhile, our native vegetation is thriving, and our honeybees can be found buzzing throughout the property.

Jurassic RidgeJurassic Ridge is a small family-established and owned vineyard and winery situated in historic Church Bay (Hangaura) on the western end of Waiheke Island in the Hauraki Gulf. Our vineyard sits just above the site of one of the earliest missionary churches in Auckland, and enjoys expansive views over the Bay, the Hauraki Gulf islands and the Auckland city skyline, just 35 minutes away by fast ferry. Whilst the original meaning of the name Hangaura has been lost, the literal translation of hanga is ‘to make’, while ura – right across Polynesia – is ‘red’. The perfect place to make red wine! Why Jurassic Ridge?' - or, 'Where did you get the name?' Well - the vineyard is named for its terroir - specifically, its geological terroir. A major study has shown the critical importance of the type of rock beneath the vineyard. Our vines are planted over the exposed core of an ancient mountain ridge composed of 155 million year old rock formations (ie from the Late or Upper Jurassic period). in fact the centre of our vineyard sits precisely on the ridge line of the mountain that was once almost 3000m high. The sedimentary rock strata beneath the vineyard consists of greywacke sandstones, mudstones and argillites, interbedded with those mysterious rocks called cherts (ask me about them) and injected here and there with submarine basaltic pillow lavas. These rocks gradually weather and break down into our low fertility, stony, cracking clay soils, rich in iron oxides, manganese and magnesium from the ancient volcanic intrusions.

Obsidian VineyardObsidian Vineyard nestles in the coastal hills of the Onetangi Valley adjacent to the northern coast of Waiheke Island. Here, small batches of wine are grown on four discrete hillsides set out in an amphitheatre-like fashion. The sheltered vines enjoy high levels of heat summation, tempered by the maritime breeze. The mineralized clay soil is rich in iron and manganese oxides, and overlays ancient weathered rock. These conditions perfectly suit the noble red and white grapes originating from the Mediterranean countries. The vineyard was originally planted in 1993 with the single objective of producing a great Bordeaux-style red. Since then the 10-hectare of planted vines, with its four distinctive blocks, has seen many changes with new varieties planted and although producing a stylish Bordeaux-style red remains a significant focus at Obsidian, other new and innovative grape varieties have been introduced.

Lawson's Dry HillsWhen you combine more than 20 years’ experience with an inquisitive spirit, the result is a perfect balance of knowledge and innovation. These two traits can be found in every bottle of Lawson’s Dry Hills wine – wonderful, top quality fruit from our carefully nurtured vineyards transformed into imminently drinkable wines using modern winemaking techniques. The original company vineyard was planted in 1980 by Ross and Barbara Lawson, who launched the Lawson’s Dry Hills label some twelve years later, in 1992. Today, the company’s wines include Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and our famous Gewurztraminer, all made from fruit grown in Wairau, Waihopai, Omaka and Awatere Valleys. These different regions and carefully selected vineyard sites provide varying characteristics derived from the different soils and microclimates, giving many options when it comes to blending to that much-anticipated Lawson’s style. The dedicated bunch of people that make up our small team at Lawson’s Dry Hills are very ‘hands on’, living and breathing every part of the viticultural and winemaking process. We do a lot of talking and tasting before pouring our shared inspiration into every bottle. The resulting wines offer an authentic expression of the place and the grape variety they are made from together with a certain special something that we believe can only come from passion. It would seem that the combination of elements that go into each of our wines is a winning formula. We have lost count of all our gold medals – the certificates cover the walls in our cellar door while the shelves are buckling with the weight of all our trophies – both local and overseas. But actually we’re not ones to boast so that’s enough of that. We’d rather roll our sleeves up and get stuck in to making the best wines possible, after all, that’s what we dream of, talk about and well, it’s actually what we do.
