In the early 80s, Erminia, Generoso, and Roberto Di Meo acquired the historical estate from their parents Vittorio and Alessandrina, located in the province of Avellino, in the area of Salza Irpina. The Di Meo estate, a beautiful 18th-century farmhouse that was once a hunting lodge of the Caracciolo Prince, is surrounded by mild and breezy hillsides. The goal of the three brothers was to produce wines from the most widespread native varieties in Irpinia, like Fiano, Greco, Aglianico, and Coda di Volpe, and promote the value of cultural and regional traditions. So, they decided to plant vineyards and, in 1986, they started producing the first set of wines of the family: this is the moment that winery Di Meo was born. While the Irpinia wine underwent a period of strong growth, with the important accreditation of the DOCG Fiano di Avellino, Greco di Tufo, and Taurasi and the growth of a significant quality wine sector, the oenological project of the Di Meos Brothers evolved very quickly: besides the production of wines in the best areas of the province, they started the production of liquors, spirits, and other food Irpinian products as well, and in a few years the company was set up as one of the most prestigious production companies in the region. Today the company is run by Roberto, Oenologist, Winemaker, and Sales Manager, and by Generoso, promoter of “Di Meo Vini ad Arte”, a project to enhance and spread worldwide the cultural heritage of Irpinia and Campania: after all, like wine, this is a way to celebrate the family link with the territory and offer its history to contemporary taste.

(Winery in Avellino)

Mastroberardino family is living inside the socio-cultural wine world contest from two centuries, accordingly to the most reliable historical reconstructions. The first traces of its presence in Irpinia date back to the Bourbons land register, in the half of the Eighteenth century, when the family chose the town of Atripalda as its headquarter, where the ancient cellar is still located. There started an offspring that tied for ever the destiny of the future generations to the wine cult. Since then, ten generations led the family business, in always different circumstances, as it always happens in the stories of the most ancient family businesses. The family estates are all located in Irpinia, in the heart of the areas of production of the three DOCG: Greco di Tufo, Fiano di Avellino, Taurasi. They are distributed in several areas in order to save the identity, safeguard and development of the local varieties and vineyards. Historically, this has always been Mastroberardino main mission, for the protection of traditional wine values of the area, caring at the same time for innovation and developing of a modern interpretation of its own wines. This is the smart blend of ancient culture’s style and character together with most innovative and high quality technologies. The Mastroberardino family was almost alone in Irpinia defending this patrimony up into the 1990s. If nowadays the wines of this area have a definite legitimate place among the most exclusive and famous world productions, it is due to the perseverance and the enormous contribution to culture by Antonio Mastroberardino, who was able to represent in a masterly manner the connection between the roots of the ancient world and man’s unquenchable thirst for knowledge.

The desire of Giuseppe De Marco to test himself again, always aiming for the best, with enthusiasm, optimism and dedication, has awakened the nostalgic memory of the homeland, with its traditions, family ties and the emotions of the past. This desire led to the decision to resume the activity of his grandfather Peppino in a modern key: this is how Cantina Riccio was born. Located less than 700 meters high and immersed in the green of rich traditionhilly territory, the Riccio Winery is located in one of the most characteristic villages of the Irpinia land, Chiusano di San Domenico. Here the fascination of ancient places is inserted in the ferment of a vegetation and a landscape of extraordinary vitality. The presence of steep slopes makes this soil perfectly suited to the cultivation of the vine. The abundant supply of water courses in addition to particularly favorable winds, give the wines produced in the area, excellent quality characteristics. Thanks to the careful and personal care of Giuseppe and his son Luigi, it was possible to combine the use of the most advanced techniques of cultivation and viticulture with the skilled work of expert hands and passionate men. The fruit of the vine, offered by a favorable and generous land, flows in a very high quality product, for the most refined palates and more demanding tastes.

Respect for its surroundings and a limited production of high-quality products. That's what characterizes Le Masciare Estate. Since our foundation we have been amply rewarded for our approach, having won many awards from Slow Food, Gambero Rosso and ExtraBio, as well as having a strong presence in the most representative wine guides. The estate, covering 20 hectares in Irpinia, produces the Aglianico purple red grape – often referred to as the 'Nebbiolo of the South', as well as the white Fiano, Greco and Coda di Volpe grapes. Each year, the harvest is carried out with consummate expertise and love, under the careful supervision and hands of our enologist Emiliano Falsini together with the founders of the wine estate.

Along the first turns of the road that leads to Passo della Serra, the visitor is captured by the unique beauty of this part of Irpinia land that divides the Valle del Sabato from Valle del Calore; This land, which for thousands of years has been known for the cultivation of the vine; And it is just here, on the Serra di Montemiletto, about 550 meters away, where lies the Tenuta del Meriggio, in which centre is placed the modern winery. The Meriggio Estate was born from the passion for the vineyards and for the excellent wines that is possible to produce in these places; We like to refer the name chosen to the atmosphere that are formed, especially in the aspens and sunny “controre” typical of the summer, when the time on these hills seems suspended, and the air is pervaded by an ancient magic.
