About Winery and Wines

The grape growing has always been present in Guglielmi's farmland. At the end of nineteenth century, since the grape phylloxera destroyed our old grapevines, my great-grandfather Giandomenico had to replace the grapevines. In the 1960s my father Elmo committed to farm grapevines of Rossese and Massarda, the grape growing was totally handmade. At that time, in our land farmer started to grow the roses. Thanks to a new legislation about wine, Rossese became a DOC wine in 1972 and many winegrower began began to bottle the wine and sell it directly to restaurants. Conversely my father continued the wholesale of wine. By the end of 1970s the wine sector suffered a bad crisis, a lot of low quality wine was sold at a low price to bars and restaurants. In those years, floriculture replaced the vineyard growing in our land.

My family committed to floriculture until 1990s. In that period, that sector went into a deep crisis still present. Since the production costs increased and gains decreased, farmers tried to find other sources of revenue. I remember the day in which we began to think about expand the vineyards and build a cellar. It was the beginning of a dream, I saw my father's eyes shine. Poggi dell’Elmo was officially born in 2000 and owes its name to my father Elmo. In recent years, we have expanded dealing with many adversities and continuing to work every day with dedication, because it is always important to remember that, despite Internet and the tools of advertising and marketing, the most important thing is working land.
