Beautiful and the staff was so nice. Liked being able to pick a tasting theme - whites, reds, sweet wine, or reserves.

About Winery and Wines

The Shenandoah Valley is rapidly becoming a popular spot to grow grapes. This largely undiscovered appellation provides the climate and soil to grow great European wine grape varietals. The rolling hills drain the water and cold air producing sweet grapes and protecting the vineyards from frost. Couple all this with some of the prettiest countryside anywhere and you have the perfect destination for wine touring. Bluestone Vineyard is located in the center of this beautiful valley, named after the "bluestone" (a type of limestone) that is a main component within the local soil. We began planting vines in 2008 and have established ourselves as a Virginia Winery producing well-crafted boutique wines.

Bluestone Vineyard is located on the ground that once was part of Rocby Holsteins, a well known dairy farm owned and operated by the Gardner family. Parts of the hill were too steep for traditional farming but work well for grapes. The hill not only provides water drainage to keep the vines dry, but also allows the cold air to descend onto the river bottom land below, giving us a bit of protection from the damaging spring frosts. The soil is rocky, full of traditional Shenandoah Valley limestone (thus the name "Bluestone Vineyard") and large pieces of quartz, providing excellent growing conditions for our grapes, especially the cabernets.
