Located about 12 kilometres south east of Margaret River, our vineyard is planted to cabernet sauvignon, shiraz, merlot, malbec, sauvignon blanc, semillon and chardonnay. We wholeheartedly believe in the maxim that ‘great wine is made in the vineyard’ so we don’t irrigate our vines, instead leaving them to reap the benefits of the harsh, gravelly (lateritic) soils and the warm, sunny climate. Being dry grown, the vines are stressed to direct what little water they get into their fruit. This results in small, intensely flavoured grapes – our cabernet grapes are smaller than peas! – which lead, of course, to deeply coloured, intensely flavoured wines. It also leads to significantly lower yields than the Margaret River average, which is 4-5 tonnes per acre. The yield for our Reserve wines is only 0.8 tonnes per acre, and 1.5 tonnes per acre for everything else, even our everyday drinking wines.
