About Winery and Wines

The modern story of the ancient Castle Sallegg starts in 1851: Archduke Rainer of Austria, Viceroy of the Lombardy and Veneto purchased the castle and surrounding wine-growing estates in that year. Continued ownership descended from Prince Heinrich Campofranco to the Counts von Kuenburg. The fine cellars in the castle are testament of landed gentry that has always connected castle living with wine creation.

The vineyards are the most valuable assets of the family property. The cultivation makes use of natural systems which connect traditional knowledge with modern methods and experience. An ultramodern wine production was developed within the historical castle walls. The enologist has all the latest technical support at his disposal for pressing wine. Every individual tank can be independently temperature regulated for controlled fermentation.
