About Winery and Wines

Located 50 kilometers from Barcelona, Castellroig enjoys all the advantages of one of the most attractive cultures in the world. Dynamic and open, the Mediterranean culture encourages leisure and invites us to stroll outdoors and enjoy every minute. World-famous artists like Miró, Barceló and especially Gaudí, have been inspired by this culture. The Sagrada Família, Parc Güell and Casa Batlló are genuine works of art that constitute a treasure of forms, ideas, symbols and fantasy which is hard to beat. Its gastronomy, traditions and folklore also represent an important part of this Mediterranean area and reflect the fusion of cultures that have lived together throughout the centuries along the Catalan coast. Examples such as calçots (grilled scallions), the castells (human towers) and giants (giant figures) are symbols of a land that delights in a unique way of life.

The Valle del Bitlles enjoys the inland conditions typical of the Mediterranean, with mild winters and hot, dry summers, where thermal variations are tempered by the proximity to the sea. The mountains that surround the Sabaté i Coca Estate favor a micro-climate ideal for cultivating wine. On the one hand, the Sierra Litoral acts as a barrier for the excess humidity generated in coastal areas. And on the other hand, Montserrat protects the parcels from the winds and low temperatures from the Pyrenees. The climate at the estate is Mediterranean, with a touch of sea air, dry and hot summers, mild winters and most of the irregular rainfall in spring and autumn. The average annual temperature is 15ºC, with highest temperatures in August, reaching 32ºC, and minimum temperatures in December when it can drop to 2ºC. In terms of rainfall, average annual rainfall is around 500 mm, with most falling during September and October at a rate of 70 mm per month. Least rainfall occurs in July, February and March. These climatic conditions, which promote summer water stress, considerably favor the good maturation of the grape and play a predominant role in the accumulation of sugars.
