About Winery and Wines

Quinta do Cabeço, is situated on the left bank of the Douro River, near Tabuaço (between the towns of Régua and Pinhão), in Quinta do Cabeço, having a privileged location in the Demarcated Region of the Douro were we produce our wines ARROJO, FAGOTE and OBOÉ. Quinta do Cabeço is a property of 8 hectares, with a fantastic exposition and medium altitude of 300 meters, this contributes for powerful wines with a good freshness. Here we produced 60% of our grapes, the remaining we buy from some friends and partners winemakers, with whom we maintain a relationship over the year so all of operations stay under our control. We use grapes from vineyards located in different parts of the Douro Valley. The main grape varieties used are Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca. The vines have ages between 15 and 50 years old, which are very important, because it contributes for a diversity of flavors, intensity, aroma and other characteristics.

We initiated with the Fagote, producing in the first years only a “Colheita” and a Reserve, both red wines. With their success, the development of the production was possible and it allowed us to launch the first top of the gamma, the Oboé. Some years later the Arrojo and JM labels completed the CVD range. In its range of products it makes use of Red Wines “Colheita”, Reserve and Great Choice; White Wine “Colheita” and Reserve; and a Rose Wine. Basically, we have two types/styles of wines, modern Douro wines (ARROJO and JM) and the Douro traditional wines (FAGOTE and OBOE). In the first case, the wines are very aromatic and mineral, spicy, with leather aromas, and very elegant final. The traditional wines, are more closed in aroma, with red and mature fruit, good concentration to develop in bottle, more complex and powerful, great intensity and a richly textured palate.
