Went here with friends on recommendations from others. The facility and surrounding area are gorgeous. The staff were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. Esposa and I each did a tasting, splitting evenly between the 11 wines. Unfortunately, we found a fair number these wines overly simplistic and not on par with other wines in the area. A fair number of our tastings went into the dump bucket. The better wines were approachable and offered some depth and complexity. This is a winery that we'll watch and likely return to, in hopes of better wines.

I wish I could say more about...

I wish I could say more about this vineyard, but everything I'm remembering about the place has nothing to do with their wine, which I guess means that it didn't leave an impression with me. I do remember that the venue looked impressively enormous and that the staff were extremely friendly and inviting. The one advice I can give you is to put your name down on the waitlist at the adjacent Italian restaurant before you head off to the wine tasting. It gets extremely busy so trying a flight of wine will surely help pass the wait time.

Every part of our experience was better...

Every part of our experience was better than the last! The staff was friendly, attentive and very knowledgeable. Not only were they great at their jobs but they were fun to conversations with and really added to the fun atmosphere! We were traveling with a group of ten and every single person found at least one ( some of us four or five) wine that they absolutely loved. The wine was not only delicious but also very well priced. After our experience in the tap room we decided to have dinner. The food is delicious! Where as some of the hill country wineries offer little prepackaged snacks, Duchman has a full restaurant with bar. After a long day of wine tasting a few of us were pleasantly surprised to find a full bar with other options. The food was amazing. Not 'good for a the only place in the middle of nowhere' good. It was genuinely delicious and would rival many of the Italian restaurants in the city. An over all fabulous experience!

About Winery and Wines

The Duchman Family Winery was founded in 2004 by Drs. Lisa and Stan Duchman in a quest to bring world-class winemaking to Central Texas and the Texas Hill Country. A love for old world wines and a vision of the possibilities in Texas inspired them to work with viticultural consultant Bobby Cox and growers in the High Planes AVA to produce grapes that would allow their winemaker to experiment with making wines like Vermentino, Sangiovese, and Dolcetto. Under the careful direction of the Duchmans, their winery has become one of the most successful and innovative producers in Texas.

It all starts in the vineyard. Even the most talented winemaker can’t turn out a great wine without great grapes. At Duchman, we are extremely proud to partner with some of the best grape growers in the state. Their operations range in scope from small acreage Hill Country plots, to sprawling, multi-vineyard operations with plantings in multiple AVAs. The common thread among this group is an intense dedication to producing varietals that can thrive in the climate and soil of Texas.
