Annual End of Frost Party last weekend...

4/29/14
Annual End of Frost Party last weekend was fabulous, although Lost Dog Found provided amazing music and Pizza Politana delectable pizzas the star of the show was, of course, the wines. Rebecca and Keith greeted you with a 2013 Ruby Ruby (Ruby will you be Wine?) Pinot Noir Saignee from the Russian River Valley. This wine from the Hallberg Vineyard was crisp and fruity. It was placed into the fermentation tanks with the skins for a few days and then just the juice was removed to ferment. It spent 3-4 months in natural oak and is the perfect wine for the warm weather that has moved into Sonoma County this week. Taylor was assisting Mari with a barrel tasting of the 2013 Hallberg Pinot Noir - oh my, I can't wait until this is in the bottle! Raspberries, a silky mouth feel, and incredible balance in such a young wine - so promising. Available now are the 2011 Pinots from Hallberg and William Wesley Vineyards. Both of these are excellent wines, although I am partial to the dry farming methods used to produce the Hallberg designate wine. Both displayed beautiful berry notes and lively tannins that should reward a little patience in the cellar. I would recommend putting these down for a little while yet, especially the William Wesley - I am sure they will reward you.

I have traveled the world and enjoyed...

I have traveled the world and enjoyed some great wines and way too many not so great. But none have surpassed the Pinot Noir wines produced by Emeritus Vineyards. These are world class wines produced by great people, great soil and great weather. I am always in awe of true artists and their work. They bless us with their work.

This may be the best Pinot Noir...

12/17/12
This may be the best Pinot Noir you've ever tasted! It's wonderful by itself or with food. I'm a big fan of fish but I drink Emeritus Pinot Noir with fish dishes and just about everything else I eat. You have to try it, and then you must add your name to the Emeritus mailing list so you'll know when the next wine is released. (It's not available in retail stores, just at restaurants and directly from the winery.)

About Winery and Wines

The philosophy of Emeritus Vineyards is influenced by our founding winemaker, McDonald “Don” Blackburn. Don, born in Virginia, studied and worked in Burgundy for many years before returning to the United States. He believed that when Pinot Noir achieves its highest expression, there is no wine that can compare with it. Don observed that, historically, a disproportionately high number of the greatest wines have been Pinot Noir.
