About Winery and Wines

Cantine Gulino is a historic winery located in the heart of South-Eastern Sicily. This family-owned business is situated in Siracusa, surrounded by vineyards and a lush garden, near the Ionian Sea. The Gulino family has been growing ancient and traditional grape varieties, such as Nero d'Avola, Albanello, and Moscato of Siracusa, since 1793.

The history of Cantine Gulino dates back to the 1600s. The ancestors of the family used to run a small store in the old town of Siracusa, where they sold wines that were exported all over the world. In 1793, they purchased land with a building and an ancient millstone in Contrada Fanusa, along with the surrounding vineyards.

In the early 1990s, a new generation took over the business. Sebastiano Gulino, the current owner, is an otolaryngologist with a passion for winemaking who wanted to keep the family traditions alive. He renovated the winery and replanted new vineyards to restore ancient grape varieties like Moscato of Siracusa, Nero d'Avola, and Albanello.

Inside the winery, visitors can still see the ancient millstone from 1600, where grapes were pressed in the past, an old pressing spot, and the barrel room with wooden oak barrels for aging and refining the Nero d'Avola wine.

Cantine Gulino owns fifteen hectares of vineyards, which are spread over three certified wine regions: Siracusa, Pachino, and Ispica. In Contrada Fanusa (Siracusa), the winery cultivates typical and historic grape varieties of the area, such as Nero d'Avola, Moscato di Siracusa, and Albanello. In addition, they also grow Sicilian and international grape varieties, such as Inzolia, Syrah, and Chardonnay, from which they produce eight different wines. These include two sweet wines, two red wines and four white wines.
