Fattoria Poggio Capponi di Gioconda Rousseau Colzi
About the Winery
Poggio Capponi Winery is steeped in history, with origins tracing back to the late 15th century, at the height of the Florentine Renaissance. Located just 25 kilometers from Florence, the estate has been shaped by centuries of cultural, artistic, and agricultural heritage, flourishing during the era of the Medici dynasty.
Perched among the rolling hills of Chianti, the winery has cultivated its land for over 500 years, producing not only exceptional wines but also olive oil and grains. Its landscape—an elegant tapestry of vineyards, olive groves, and ancient woodlands—reflects a timeless harmony between human craftsmanship and the natural environment.
Today, Poggio Capponi offers visitors a chance to experience the authentic beauty of Tuscany, where deep-rooted tradition meets modern winemaking innovation. It is a place where history is not only preserved but lived, inviting travelers to immerse themselves in the enduring spirit and legacy of this remarkable estate.
About the Wines
At Poggio Capponi, each wine is a true expression of the richness and diversity of the Tuscan terroir, where time-honored traditions meet thoughtful innovation. The estate produces a refined selection of wines, all crafted with a deep commitment to quality and authenticity.
Among its highlights is the Chianti Poggio Capponi D.O.C.G., an elegant blend of Sangiovese, Merlot, and Colorino, aged for 12 months in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness and vibrancy. The Chianti Riserva D.O.C.G. and Petriccio Chianti Montespertoli D.O.C.G. further celebrate the character of Sangiovese, enhanced by Syrah and other native varieties, and matured in barriques and tonneaux for up to 14 months, resulting in greater depth and complexity.
For those who appreciate richer, more structured reds, the Tinorso Rosso Toscana I.G.T.—a blend of Merlot and Syrah—is aged between 16 and 18 months in barriques, offering intensity, balance, and elegance.
The estate also produces a selection of distinctive white wines, including the Binto Bianco Toscana I.G.T., a harmonious Vermentino
and the Sovente Chardonnay I.G.T., alongside the refined and delicate Villa Capponi Rosé I.G.T.
Each bottle reflects Poggio Capponi’s dedication to its land, capturing the essence of Tuscany through wines that are both expressive and enduring.

They also have several rooms and therefore offer the possibility of an overnight stay. The property is 30 minutes from Florence, it is in the hills, surrounded by greenery and with a very tempting pool. I don't rule out the possibility of returning for a weekend!
