About Winery and Wines

Franco Ivaldi belongs to a family traditionally devoted to viticulture. He spent his childhood in his family's farmstead and vineyards where his passion for the world of wine began. His first steps in this world were made as a sommelier and taster while later he joined the world of the vinification. In 1995 he decided to inaugurate a new winery with the assistance of his wife Caterina, his daughter Elena, and his son Giorgio who now is an enologist. Franco Ivaldi's vine-growing and wine business is located in Caranzano Cassine (AL) in the Alto Monferrato, a few kilometers away form Acqui Terme -a territory traditionally devoted to viticulture and where numerous designations of origin have their foundations. The philosophy of the winery is reflected in a viticulture based on controlled harvests. In order to produce wines with perceptible typical characteristics the winemaking processes are conducted in such a way that maximises the peculiarities of the different grapes and of the different vineyards. The result of this, is a wine that reflects the uniqueness of the Monferrato, a territory proclaimed world heritage site by UNESCO and which can boast a unique territory with a wide variety of grapes. All the goals described above ground on accurate technological and winemaking choices which range from the separation of the different batches to the limited and rational use of wood containers for the aging of red wines. Since the setting up of this new business, Albarossa, a new vine with great prospects has been growing alongside the most traditional varieties like Barbera, Dolcetto, Freisa, Moscato and Cortese. Albarossa is a crossbreed between Nebbiolo of Dronero and Barbera, which was made in 1938 by Professor G. Dalmasso and experimented in the early years of the new millenium by the Tenuta Cannona (vine-growing and wine experimental centre of the Piedmont Region).
