About Winery and Wines

I Vigneri was founded by Salvo Foti. Etnean, born in Catania in 1962, Salvo worked in the vineyard since he was a child. In 1981, he began his career as an enologist by collaborating with renowned Sicilian wineries in the area of Ragusa, Trapani, but especially with Etna's wineries, where he participated in the birth of realities now leaders in the area. His commitment in the enological field has never been only technical but also extended to collateral activities such as wine marketing and scientific research. Today his sons Simone and Andrea, who since their childhood have been interested in viticulture, are also part of I Vigneri. Andrea is mainly responsible for the enological side of the business as well as quality control, whereas Simone is mainly responsible for the vineyards. I Vigneri define their wines as "Human Wines" rather than "natural" or other. "Human Wine" for them symbolizes the continuation of the agricultural and viticultural practices of their ancestors, the use of the ancient agricultural system of Alberello and the Palmento, as well as the harmonious sharing of work. All of I Vigneri's collaborators are originally from Etna and many have been working with Salvo for over 25 years.

The Etna region is characterized by a high environmental and microclimatic variability. In a few dozen kilometers you can find naturalistic and agricultural landscapes ranging from sub-tropical climate to mountain climate.   The environmental variability is also conditioned by the singular position of Etna: altitude and exposure deeply influence the slopes, generating unique microclimates for the cultivation of vines. Moreover, the different lava flows over the centuries have created soils characterized by strong variability. Climate, exposure, altitude, and the volcanic soil of Etna determine considerable differences in the production of wine, even within the same district.
