The Cave de Genève, following its establishment in 1994, quickly linked its wines to the local culture in the broadest sense, as its slogan says: Farming land and land of culture. The entire history of Geneva, past and present, is unveiled through its lines of wine. Growing grapes is in the first instance about cultivation, but it is also an ages-old practice and very special art that we want to share with – and for – you. Our cellar plays a major role in the Swiss AOC wines market; the reputation of the winery reaches well beyond the borders of canton Geneva. The history of La Cave de Genève, which dates back to the end of the first world war, is rich and tumultuous. In 1929, several growers in the Arve et Lac region decided to create a cooperative, which was given the name La Cave de La Souche; it brought together some 50 members. These growers were behind the first Swiss wine Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée. It was followed in 1933 by Cave du Mandement. In 1948, the companyVin Union was created and took charge of oenology, packaging and marketing operations. After having changed its name fairly often but always keeping the generic “La Cave”, the company was cellaring nearly 80% of Geneva’s wine production during the 1970s. Its main activity was turning grapes into wine and marketing the wines. The cooperative received grapes as they were harvested, to vinify them. La Cave de Genève has been in Zimeysa in Satigny since 2007, where it is open year-round so you can taste quality wines made from the generous local terroir, cultivated with skill by grape growers who are passionate about their work.
