I had the pleasure of meeting Don here at the Barrel Tasting this past weekend. We were lucky to come here because it was one of the two wineries that required a reservation. Of course on the day of the event, I tried to reserve and cannot find the page. Luckily for us, the nice lady in the front told us there were 2 people who did not show up before us.

At the barrel tasting event, they had just mixed a Bourdeaux the week before. I jokingly said that if I really liked it, it's going to suck because it's going to be bottled in 2 years. You know what? It was the best I've had that whole Saturday and Don also poured us a 2011 Syrah here which was excellent as well. Both wines were full bodied, has notes of licorish, raspberries. I've never made it here before and now, I think I will make this a must stop in my Temecula wine travels.

Thanks Don and to the lady in the front for giving me the opportunity to try your award winning wines.

About Winery and Wines

In 1968 local wine making legend Philo Biane planted the first of his 400 acres in Temecula. Because Biane lived next door to Lorenzi’s uncle, Don got to know this key person. It is no small irony that decades later Lorenzi Estate Vineyards would be part of the original site Biane planted in the 60s. Biane knew that the vineyards are located 22 miles from the Pacific Ocean and are 1,500 feet above sea level. Cool, foggy mornings give way to nurturing sunshine that ripen grapes perfectly. Cool breezes from the “Rainbow Gap” bring temperatures back down in the evening. All of our vineyards and those of our neighbors who we work with, are farmed with minimum crop loads which guarantee a higher quality grape. The soils are decomposed granite rich in phosperous which drain naturally, offering the vine optimum environment. Our water management practices incorporate drip irrigation which allows us to deliver the specific amount of water each vine needs. We hand prune and thin the vines two to three times per year to assure even ripening which prevents vegetal off flavors. We only harvest at night at the peak of ripeness to assure wines that are rich and concentrated. And we hand sort at harvest to again heighten the quality experience. We grow six varietals on our property plus we have exclusive agreements with neighboring vineyards for additional varietals. This adds up to a limited production, ultra premium wine experience.
