Had a ball here. The guy who works at the cellar door , Simon , was a great bloke who was very welcoming and informative. We bought plenty of wine from this place and were lucky enough to meet Peter Mortimer , the owner, when we were leaving and he is a champion bloke. Very family based, hands on winery and definitely worth visiting.

We travelled in a group of eight in June 2016 and had a wonderful experience at Mortimers Wines. Peter and his staff were so friendly and accommodating to our group and we spent a wonderful two hours there. Loved the wines and brought many home with us, including some special commemorative reds and whites. It was great seeing the Bulldogs memorabilia too. This is a winery not to be missed. It was our favourite experience of our weekend in Orange.

Was honoured on the weekend to try Jules their Shiraz/Cab Sav blend. Wow! Was amazing. I did also enjoy their Stadium range on the other hand too! Bought myself two bottles of that lovely light red. But if money had not been an object, I would have loved to walk out with a case of their Jules! Well done guys. Very nice drop that one. :)

About Winery and Wines

Former Canterbury Bankstown Bulldog Peter Mortimer, his wife Julie and their five sons, Michael, James, Tim, Daniel and Robbie planted Chestnut Garth Vineyard to 1 hectare of Chardonnay grapes in 1996. The following year a further 1.2 hectares of Shiraz and 1 hectare of Cabernet Sauvignon were added. More recently a small area of Pinot Noir and Merlot was planted. They source Sauvignon Blanc from a neighbouring vineyard. Chestnut Garth vineyard is named after a quiet avenue in the rural Humberside village of Burton Pidsea in the UK where Peter played Rugby League for Hull Kingston Rovers in 1987. The original street sign is "on loan" and adorns the entrance to Chestnut Garth Vineyard at 786 Burrendong Way Orange in New South Wales.

Chestnut Garth Vineyard is 7.86 km from the Orange Post Office hence the number 786. Follow Burrendong Way for 5 Km past the Northern distributor. As you approach the small village of March you will see The Old March School est 1866 which adjoins the vineyard and is now our Cellar Door .The vineyard is maintained and worked by the Mortimer family. The grapes are hand picked.
