The De Waals have been wine farmers for many generations and Hermanus Lambertus de Waal settled in the Voor-Paardeberg area from Langverwacht, Stellenbosch in 1877. He and his descendants were quite successful to the extent that Pieter de Waal won the ultimate accolade for his wine in 1927 i.e. the General Smuts Trophy. Willem de Waal, the General Manager of our family business, graduated from the Cape Town International Hotel Management School before studying Management Accounting at the University of Stellenbosch. After extensive experience in the business world he joined the family business in 2009 to live his dream of being surrounded by the great outdoors (and pets). He is married to Elizabeth (Joubert) and and they have two little girls that love running around the farm. Although we are a working wine farm, the guest houses have become an integral and very important part of our everyday life.
