About Winery and Wines

Quinta do Estanho appears in the First Wine Demarcation, “De Feitoria” in 1757. It is located in the left river bank of Pinhão River, at a medium altitude of 300 metres. It has produced QUALITY wines for several generations. In 1987, its owner, Jaime Acácio Queiroz Cardoso, became the second Producer – Bottler – Exporter in the entire Douro Region, selling the wine directly to the national and international markets. Quinta do Estanho invests in the QUALITY of its Wines, all produced according to traditional methods, crushed by foot in granite presses with prolonging fermentation, selection of grape varieties, etc. … The Quinta do Estanho became one of the first companies of the sector which launched in 1987 the Port Wines 20 Years Old and the Old White Special. In 1988, we launched our first Douro Red Wine V.Q.P.R.D. 1985. We have received excellent comments. Motivated by the great success of its Wines and aiming at expansion, it purchased in 1990 the Quinta dos Corvos, located in the opposite river bank, with 25 h.a., being the Wines produced in this Quinta of an outstanding quality. In 1992 it approves its first Vintage – 1989, classified as VERY GOOD by I.V.P. (Douro and Port Wine Institute). Since then and considering the STRONG QUALITY of its Wines it has also approved the ones from 1990, 1991, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998 and 2000. In 1997, we launched the first version of our website. It was a great success. In 1998, we started to participate in Competitions of well-known credibility. Since then we have been awarded 104 QUALITY PRIZES. In 2000 we have launched our first Top Quality Douros, the varietal, Quinta do Estanho Tinta Roriz 1999 and the Reserva 1989, and later the Tinta Roriz 2000 and Reserva 2000 and 2001, awarded and positively criticised in the press.
