Love this winery! We travel to the Okanagan every year (from Ontario) & we make sure that we always make it up to the Castle. Friendly, knowledgeable staff & a warm welcoming feel. The many varieties are all beautifully crafted. My personal favourite is the Jackpot Petit Verdot. Can't go to Oliver without stopping here!!

We loved our visit here. From the Castle to the new building next door, Road 13 was our favorite stop on our visit to the Okanagan. I have to take a moment to give a shout out to the staff in the new building: they are some of the most entertaining people that we have ever spent time with. Unpretentious, knowledgeable and kind, with incredible insight into the process of making wine.

Even the owners and their son made an appearance! Truly a family run, hands-on winery. The care and attention to detail are readily apparent, making this the number one stop the we made on our vacation. Kudos and congratulations!

Everyone that we've introduced to this winery has been more than pleased with many of the wines. Our houseguests have specifically asked us to take them back to Road 13. We buy wine at a lot of different wineries and I find it hard to believe that someone would give this winery a poor rating. They have wines to suit even the most sophisticated palates. We like so many of Road 13's wines that it's tough to pick a favourite. That said, Honest John's Red is very consistent year after year and it's affordable. It pairs well with many appetizers and main dishes and it's the all time favourite at parties. The view from the winery patio is beautiful and the staff are knowledgable and very accommodating.

Sobre la bodega y los vinos

When we purchased our winery in 2003 from the Serwo family, it came with a vineyard, a winery, and a name: Golden Mile Cellars. Since then, we came to understand the significance and value that the term Golden Mile Bench has to the wineries located along Highway 97, between Fairview and Road 18. This combined with the continual questioning from Walter Gehringer, “When are you changing the name of the winery?” led us to do just that. Road 13 is the location of our winery and three of our vineyard sites: the Home, the Castle and Peter's Vineyard. Our land was first cultivated in the early 1920s, when BC premier Honest John Oliver turned the area into rich farmland by constructing an irrigation canal from Okanagan Falls. In addition to marking a new era of creating terroir-driven wines, our name change also provides an opportunity to give the name “Golden Mile” back to the wine industry in this region with the hope that we can all work together to promote the unique farming history and spectacular growing conditions of our area. Special thanks go to David Scholefield for pointing us in this new direction. His passion and enthusiasm are infectious and we just couldn’t say no. Who better to share a mug of wine with! We also wish to thank Peter and Helga Serwo who taught us a lot about vines and farming amid the confusion of new science and technology. They instilled into us the idea to not discard tried and true practices, and to listen to nature. We are eternally grateful for the care and attention they paid to the site that, after decades, is now ours. We hope that with our new direction we will do them proud.
