I loved my experience at Sweetgrass! The tasting was fantastic and they give you the glass when you do a tasting, which is great because that will last longer then the bottles I purchased. Their winery assistant, Matt, was knowledgeable and friendly. He had food recommendations for us for later and pointed out some of the cool features of the property. He also talked to us about the wine making process and how Gin is made. Pretty cool stuff. I will be visiting again and bringing friends. Cheers!

We did not know what we would...

We did not know what we would find yesterday so far off route 1 when we headed out to Sweetgrass in Union. We arrived to a beautiful shop with a million dollar view from their porch. The owners were wonderful – leading us through their line-up of wines, ports, and spirits. The still was going and the place smelled of rum – I thought I had died and gone to heaven! Despite being packed we felt our questions were welcomed and we were encouraged to walk around their facility. Matt their winery assistant was cleaning up after a morning of crushing blueberries and he showed us around. We were only going to buy a bottle or 2 for gifts but could not pass up their Three Crow Rum or Back River Gin and left with a box full. Not only visit this place but take your time – the history, stories, and tasting is like no other.

Sweetgrass Farm Winery and Distillery is located in the rolling hills of Union Maine. A warm welcoming tasting room opens up to a working winery and distillery where you can see wine and spirit production from the tasting bar. The copper alembic still is the center of activity during cool weather while crushing, pressing, mashing, and bottling takes place other days. You can select a tasting from our menu of over 15 wines and spirits. Sip and enjoy the views from our hilltop farm or discuss winemaking and distilling with the owners. Our wines and spirits have been awarded numerous medals and our Back River Gin was named one of the top 50 spirits in the world and one of the best American gins ever made. Sweetgrass uses over 70,000 lbs. of Maine grown fruit and grain each year producing hand-crafted wines and spirits with a distinctive Maine terroir – the best of Maine in a bottle! You can sample and then purchase your favorites to take home. You may also enjoy a hike on the Carroll Farm trail, a stroll through the lush gardens, or a picnic in the maple grove. Open May 1st through New Year's Eve, every day, 11 am to 5 pm.
