Tapada de Coelheiros
About the Winery
Tapada de Coelheiros is a family-owned estate that has been dedicated to producing high-quality wines in the Alentejo region since 1991. Situated in Igrejinha, just an hour and a half from Lisbon, and nestled between Évora and Arraiolos, the estate embodies the meticulous craftsmanship reminiscent of the region's famous handmade rugs. Much like the intricate embroidery of these rugs, Coelheiros wines are crafted with precision and care, parcel by parcel and batch by batch, reflecting a deep connection with the land and nature.
The estate, with over 500 years of history, has found its perfect rhythm in winemaking, respecting the legacy of time-honored traditions. Tapada de Coelheiros is deeply committed to organic farming, a philosophy that guides every aspect of their vineyard management. This commitment means avoiding the use of chemically synthesized products and instead, embracing sustainable practices that nurture the vines and the environment. The result is wines that not only capture the essence of the Alentejo terroir but also honor the natural balance and biodiversity of the region.
About the Wines
The essence of Coelheiros is deeply rooted in its connection to the land, its origins, and its traditions. Drawing inspiration from the intricate art of Arraiolos Carpets, which are known for their meticulous, point-by-point craftsmanship, Coelheiros wines are crafted with the same level of care and attention to detail. Each parcel and grape variety is carefully tended to, creating wines that are not only a reflection of their individual components but also harmoniously integrated into the greater whole, in perfect symbiosis with nature.
This centuries-old art, synonymous with durability and resilience, also symbolizes the distinctive profile of Coelheiros wines: wines that possess longevity and the ability to evolve gracefully over time. Tapada de Coelheiros wines are created with a focus on the land, plot by plot, and blend by blend, resulting in compositions that embody the essence of the Alentejo region and its natural beauty.
