About Winery and Wines

Its three vineyards surrounding Etna and 72 hectares of land make Tenute Mannino di Plachi a reference for Etna wines. Today, Tenute Mannino di Plachi consists of three structures that offer exceptional wines, typical Sicilian products and excellent services: Tenuta Le Sciarelle, Tenuta del Gelso and Pietra Marina. Tenuta Le Sciarelle finds itself in Viagrande, on the South-Eastern side of Etna at 450 meters above sea level. Here vines grow on volcanic soils and are refreshed by the coastal breeze coming from the sea. Its slopes are characterized by significant temperature excursions which rarely reach very high peaks during summer. In Tenuta Le Sciarelle are grown the white grape varieties of Carricante and Catarratto, used for the production of Etna Doc Bianco Tenute Mannino di Plachi and Palmento '810.

One of the most important agricultural areas of Sicily is overlooked by Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe. Its slopes have been a center of viticultural activity in Catania for many years, thanks to its very fertile soils and rich vegetation. Etna DOC was the first DOC to be recognized on the island and among the first in Italy. The Etna DOC disciplinary includes white, rosé, red and sparkling wines.
