About Winery and Wines

In the heart of Gattinara, in northern Piedmont, the Travaglini winery was founded in the 1920s by Clemente Travaglini. Its ownership has been passed down through the family until today. Over the years, Travaglini has established itself as the most esteemed producer of traditional, limited-production wines of the Gattinara DOCG denomination made from the nebbiolo grape. One of the distinguishing marks of Travaglini is the unique shape of their bottle, first conceived in 1958 by Giancarlo Travaglini, grandson of the founder. Its form recalls the back of a seated person with a gentle slope to its shoulders, the curved shape acting like a decanter for their Gattinara DOCG. The family’s passion and commitment to winemaking has not diminished over the generations.

Today, Cinzia Travaglini, great-granddaughter of Clemente, manages day-to- day operations at the winery. Her husband Massimo Collauto is the chief winemaker, a role he inherited from his late father-in- law and beloved mentor, Giancarlo. Travaglini’s range of wines includes their Gattinara DOCG Riserva, which has great structure and longevity, and the Nebbiolo DOC Coste delle Sesia, a young, fruity, and easy-to- drink red wine.
