My wife and I had a wonderful visit and wine tasting... so much so that we joined their Wine club. Love their wines and their reserve cab is terrific.

For most of those whose wine recognition skills are negligible it won't make a difference but it's a welcoming experience. The ones who have a basic knowledge will find it worthwhile an the experienced will fully enjoy.

Small but friendly place. Because of the earthquake in 2014, a tent was open in the front. But we did get a tour of the place, and future upgrades to the place. I'll definitely come back once the new enhancements are complete.

About Winery and Wines

One of Napa’s classic wine estates, Trefethen is still a hidden gem. Easy to find, but only if you’re looking, our entry is on Oak Knoll Avenue, tucked away from the crowds of Highway 29. The driveway John Trefethen used to land his plane on runs through the middle of our vineyard, over the ground we have tended for over 45 years. Trefethen’s history changed when a 6.0 earthquake shook through Napa Valley at 3:20 am on Sunday, August 24, 2014. Our beloved historic winery took a direct hit and was severly damaged. We are working diligently on the restoration which we expect to complete in early 2017. Hailey Trefethen, who is leading the project explains, “We have the rare opportunity to restore and improve a historic landmark. All of the original elements of the beautiful wooden structure will be retained, including the open floor plan and the gorgeous redwood siding throughout. But we are also including a full seismic retrofit and adding modern insulation. The experience for our wines aging in barrel and our guests visiting the winery will be better than ever.” For the first time in our history, the Trefethen family is now welcoming winery guests into the formal residence of our founders, Gene and Katie Trefethen. Antique gates give way to quaint garden pathways leading to the grand craftsman style manor house-home to many Trefethen family celebrations over the last 48 years. Filled with stunning woodwork from the early 1900s, the Villa, surrounded by Katie’s treasured private gardens, offers a variety of tasting experiences in the salon, sunroom and deck.
