About Winery and Wines

By the end of the 19th Century our great grandfather Costantino was already cultivating the land which we still cultivate and making the wine which to this day we make: for more than 140 years the philosophy has stayed the same. Ca'd Tantin (Ca Tanten, which in the piedmont dialect means "The house of Costantino") is me, my brother, my mother and my father (who's also a Costantino) and like great grandfather and grandfather , the wine we make has always been for drinking between us, with friends, and for whoever wishes for it. That's why we want our wine to be organic, no chemicals in the vineyard or the cantina, no added sulphites beyond those naturally found in the grapes. We let the grass grow in the rows and from time to time we cut it with the mower: no weedkillers which pollute the ground and inevitably end up in the wine itself. Almost everything is done by hand or with the help of only hoes and secateurs. For example, some weeks before the harvest we go along the rows and thin out the grapes by hand, leaving only the healthiest and best bunches, so that when ripe they are at their peak, improving the organoleptic characteristics of the wine: every vintage has its own distinct organoloeptic characteristics. Some of our vines are very old, planted by our grandfather more than 60 years ago they still succeed to give us outstanding vintages. But we haven't stopped there: thanks to the photovoltaic system installed in 2010 we have reduced the energy expenditure on the house and the cantina- and as a result our atmospheric CO2 emission. So… we do and we will continue to do everything we can to be OK and to make you feel OK too!
