You couldn't ask for a better experience....

You couldn't ask for a better experience. Henri was incredibly patient, and generous with his time spending two-hours with a group of just four wannabe wine experts that asked way too many questions. The wines were superb, both red and white. Equally superb was the setting, 250' above the valley floor and the site of a winery and vineyards that date back to the 1870's. Make an appointment. You will not be disappointed!

We visited White Rock with East Coast...

2/28/14
We visited White Rock with East Coast friends; the tour was given by Henri Vandendriessche, one of the founders. He took us through the history of the property, the principles that underlie the growing and production of their wines, as well as the recent history of the Napa Valley.

An appointment is necessary for the visit. You will be well-rewarded.

About Winery and Wines

Originally a land grant to Salvador Vallejo, the original parcel was purchased by Dr. Pettingill in 1870. Dr. Pettingill was a globetrotter and bon vivant but he is also known to have been a dentist, brewer, winemaker, and horse breeder; a character bigger than life, impassioned by science and the land. He planted the property to Riesling and Zinfandel, one of the earliest plantings in Napa. In 1871, using only a hand saw to cut the white rock he quarried from the property, he constructed a winery in which he would process 7,000 gallons of wine per year. Dr. Pettingill also designed two cellars, where he began the tradition of bottle ageing his wine for 4 years before release- a method we still proudly practice at White Rock.
